It’s been a busy few week for our ACDI Recovery crew! 🎉

A few of our members successfully completed their Mini First Aid and REHIS Food Hygiene training and now have shiny new certificates to add to their portfolios.

Last week we had a lovely morning at Netherthird Community Gardens, and we were absolutely blown away by the gorgeous flowers and hanging baskets. The gardens were so tranquil and calming, a perfect wee escape for everyone. We followed it up with a tasty lunch in the café, and of course we couldn’t resist nipping into the charity shop and a few bargains were found, you can’t beat a guid rummage!

All this on top of our regular Tuesday and Friday recovery support groups, where folk continue to show up, support each other, and build confidence week after week. Proud of every single person who walks through the door ❤️

Thursday (21st May) we’ll have Home Energy Scotland in the centre offering support, advice and a few freebies for anyone struggling with rising fuel costs. If you or someone you know could use a bit of help, please pop in; everyone’s welcome.

📅 Friday 5th June We’re excited to welcome the amazing Gemma Collins for a Wim Hof Wellness Day. There will be a few free spaces available, so if you’re interested, keep an eye on the page, more details coming soon.

Lots happening, lots of support, and always plenty of community spirit ❤️

The latest RADAR report is a stark reminder of why drug checking is urgently needed across ALL of Scotland, not just in the cities.

Nearly half of the samples submitted to WEDINOS between Dec 2025 and Feb 2026 didn’t contain only the substance people thought they were buying. In rural areas like Auchinleck, Cumnock and the surrounding villages, this risk is even sharper. People here don’t have the same access to harm-reduction services, transport is limited, and support often means long journeys or going without.

Drug checking saves lives. It can detect dangerous synthetics like nitazenes, give people accurate information, and help prevent avoidable harm. It also provides vital intelligence to protect communities.

At the heart of this is respect; everyone deserves to know what they’re taking so they can make safer, informed decisions.

Thinking of all the families and communities who have lost someone. These deaths are not inevitable, and Scotland deserves bold, evidence‑led action that includes rural communities too!!!.

Today’s Public Health Scotland RADAR report reveals that nearly half of Scottish samples submitted to WEDINOS between December 2025 and February 2026 did not solely contain the substance people believed they had purchased.

This underscores the urgent need for drug checking here in Scotland. Not just in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee, where plans are already underway to open services – but right across the country.

Drug checking services can identify the presence of highly potent synthetics, such as nitazenes, which may be added to other drugs without the knowledge of the person using them, or sold as something entirely different. Detecting these substances not only helps prevent avoidable harm and deaths, but also provides vital intelligence to inform public health responses.

At its core, drug checking is about respect. It recognises people’s right to know what they are taking and supports safer, more informed decisions about their health.

Today, our thoughts are with the families, friends and communities of all those who have died. These deaths are not inevitable. We urge the next government to show courage, follow the evidence, and work collaboratively – across government portfolios, with the third sector and alongside the people most affected – to deliver the bold, sustained, transformational change that Scotland urgently needs.

A huge thank you to Thomas Delaney for visiting ACDI Recovery yesterday and sharing his powerful story of addiction and recovery.

Thomas spoke with honesty, courage, and a level of humour that kept us all engaged and entertained. His openness really resonated with the group, with many people saying they felt a strong sense of identification with his journey, his challenges, and the hope he carries forward.

Sessions like this remind us how vital lived experience is in breaking stigma, building connection, and occasionally giving us a much‑needed laugh along the way.

We’re genuinely grateful for the time, the insight, and the inspiration.

Thank you, Thomas; you made a real impact today (and kept us entertained while doing it). Hope to see you again soon

Hope to see you this morning ☺️

Apparently I don't post enough on here… fair enough! But truth be told, not everything we do at ACDI Recovery is meant for Facebook.

A lot of the real work happens quietly: cups of tea, honest chats, tough days, good days, and folk showing up for themselves in ways that don’t need an audience. Recovery is personal, and I’ll always protect service users’s privacy, dignity, and anonymity before I ever think about sticking something online.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, I’m supporting individuals, running groups, organising events, and trying to keep my diary from looking like a game of Tetris gone wrong. 🫤

The groups and events are posted here, and EVERYONE is welcome to come along and be part of our wee community.

If you’re wondering what’s happening or you fancy joining in, just give me a shout. I promise I’m much better at blethering in person than I am at posting on social media!

Do you care for or love someone affected by addiction?

Drugs, alcohol, gambling or other life-affecting addictions don’t just impact the person using — they affect the whole family.

The worry.
The late nights.
The walking on eggshells.
The loving someone but feeling exhausted at the same time.

You deserve support too.

Our Family Support Group at ACDI Recovery is a safe space for family members and loved ones — not the person in addiction, but you. A place to talk, listen, or just sit with people who truly understand.

📍 Friendly, informal, no pressure
💛 You can share as much or as little as you like
🤝 Real people, real understanding

We’re meeting tomorrow — if you’ve been thinking about coming, this is your sign.
If you’re unsure, send us a message through the page and we’ll get back to you.

You don’t have to carry it on your own.

Week 2 of our Recovery Skills programme… absolutely smashed it again!
Today we dived into Understanding Addiction — ACEs, brain‑to‑body connections, trauma bonding, and loads more. The conversations were powerful, honest, and full of lightbulb moments.
These sessions are exactly why we love this work. Seeing people show up for themselves, support each other, and grow in confidence is just incredible to witness.
Buzzing for next week already! 💛✨

YOU DESERVE SUPPORT TOO

Do you care for or love someone who is battling addiction to drugs or alcohol — or who is in recovery?

Addiction touches every walk of life and many families.

The person supporting someone with addiction is often unseen.
The late nights.
The worry.
The never knowing what’s coming next.

We understand.

This family support group is not for the person with addiction.
It is for you — family members, friends, and loved ones.

A safe space to talk, listen, share, or simply be with people who understand.
You don’t need to have the right words.
You don’t need to share if you’re not ready.
You are not alone.

📍 Bosewell Centre

🕕 Every Thursday | 6–8pm

If you can’t make this time, but you need to talk to someone, or you’re unsure but like the idea of the group, please send us a message through this page and we’ll get back to you
