If you could control everybody and everything, you probably wouldn't be reading these posts. If we could go through life with assurances that everything happened to our satisfaction with the push of a button, it would be so easy. We would be the controller -- just like our Higher Power, except without the free-will-for-all-living-things part. But we're not in control. Other people's actions are not controlled by strings in our hand. Those who struggle with substance abuse disorder and related issues must accept they have a problem and want to seek help -- we can't do that for them, no matter how much we plea, threaten or try to love it out of them. In Families Anonymous, we learn that that our attempts to control leave us exhausted and frustrated. The program shows us how to put the focus on ourselves. Codependency and enabling begin to diminish. Situations and our role in them become clearer. We learn a better way to live. Drop the strings. Focus on you. FA will show you how.
