What a busy week we have had at Hampden Hall!

We have been enjoying making clay Daffodils along with colouring and painting Welsh flags ready for st Davids day on Sunday.

Our residents will be enjoying a delicious traditional Welsh lunch with all the trimmings, followed by some fun-filled activities to celebrate the day.

Yesterday we celebrated the Chinese New Year, the year of the horse! Our residents have been busy making Chinese lanterns, mosaic art and colouring Chinese pictures ready for the celebrations.

On the day we held a big cooking session as part of our Bistro Bakers Club, where we made spring rolls using. We had a lovely time making one of China's most delicious side dishes, and we all then got to enjoy our hard work with a tasting session in the afternoon, 10/10 for sure.

On Tuesday, we joined thousands around the UK in enjoying Shrove Tuesday. We asked our residents if they like their pancakes thin or thick, and what toppings they used to have on them as part of our reminiscence activities. We loved hearing all the stories from when they were kids to when they made them for their children, and how times have changed.

That afternoon, we made our fresh pancakes with the choice of golden syrup and fresh berries or the traditional lemon and sugar. We especially enjoyed the eating part! 🥰🤗👩‍🍳🥚🥞

Hampden Hall has been flat out getting ready for Valentine's Day last week.

We have been busy with arts and crafts, making clay hearts for visitors to take home, along with Valentine's cards for their loved ones, and baking sweet treats for us all to enjoy.

As a special Valentine's Day activity, we spread the love to all our residents by hand-delivering red roses around the home and enjoying a delicious Valentines day lunch to really celebrate the official day of love.

On Wednesday, some of our lovely ladies enjoyed a trip out to the charity shops and then a spot of lunch at the Coffee Bean. We all had a lovely time looking through the racks of clothing and talking over lunch about what we had brought. One of our residents even brought their husband a Valentine's gift that we helped her wrap, ready for saturdays celabration.

A lovely afternoon spent with the ladies' club and a very successful shopping trip.

On Monday, we celebrated National Pizza Day at our home. We all enjoyed rolling the pizza dough and using fresh ingredients to create our own master pieces ready for supper that evening.

This week, we have been celebrating Portia for her 5 years of service. Portia is one of our amazing nurses here at Hampden and does an amazing job every day looking after our residents. Thank you, Portia, for everything you do for our home.

Last week, our residents took part in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Our keen bird watchers had their binoculars and tea flasks at the ready!

We prepared days beforehand and made bird feeders to tempt our feathered friends into the garden. Unfortunatly we only saw very greedy pigeons and a few crows, but hey its the taking part that counts! 😜🐦‍⬛🦅🐦

On Thursday, we welcomed Karen and Morty to Hampden Hall. Morty is registered as Pets as Therapy dog.

Our residents loved meeting them both as they went floor to floor, greeting everyone as they went. The smiles were beaming from their faces as Morty said his hello's to all he came into contact with.

Pet therapy has such an important place in care and brings so much joy and excitement to our residents. Pet therapy has been proven to reduce anxiety and increase mental and emotional health, along with engagement and participation with others.

This week, we are celebrating our very own Vinita on reaching her massive 20-year service! Vinita joined Westgate Healthcare as a senior career and has worked her way up to the amazing dementia unit manager she is today.

This is such an amazing achievement and a real testament to Vinitas comitment to care and to her residents, so of course we couldn't let this milestone go without celebrating Vinita's amazing success with some homemade cake and some gifts from all the team.

Huge congratulations, Vinita, on an amazing achievement! 🥰🥂🍾🍰🎉🎁

Here at Hampden Hall, we understand the importance of feeling welcome and feeling settled in your new home. We also understand how vital friendships are and the effects this can have on mental health and feeling isolated. That is why we work closely with our new residents to help them develop meaningful relationships around the home.

We host afternoon tea parties to get to know our new residents and to introduce them to others with similar interests and hobbies. This has led to some lovely connections and friendships being made all around our home. Something so simple has such an amazing impact and is helping to create a wonderful, welcoming home environment.
