Great fun was had last week with all our arts and crafts throughout the home. Our residents enjoyed painting wooden leaves for our autumn displays, as well as painting pumpkins for our Halloween party, or decorating our paper candles for Diwali. There certainly has been plenty to keep us busy.

Arts and crafts in the home have a tremendous effect on residents' mental health and are a very social activity, but also have lots of physical benefits, like hand and eye coordination and fine motor skills.

last month, some of our residents made a request to go out and do something nice for others in our community. we all felt this was a fantastic idea to give something back. The residents suggested litter picking in the neighbourhood one morning, and the wellbeing team were more than happy to pitch in!

so yesterday we collected the black sacks and litter pickers and got straight to it. The residents had a great time in the fresh air picking litter and looking at the leaves turning for autumn.

It is so important to us at Hampden Hall to listen to our residents needs and requests, so they feel respected and valued. It helps make our residents feel empowered, and they have a voice in their home.

Yesterday, Hampden Hall residents welcomed back our friend Heddi from Kiddleydivey Maidenhead, High Wycombe, Wendover - Children
Heddi always puts on an amazing performance with music, sensory props, and dance. Our residents love singing and dancing along to show tunes and popular artists. She really has a unique way of making all our residents feel so relaxed and engaged. It is always a special treat when Heddi comes to our home.

Music and dance have such a huge effect on people's moods, it can reduce anxiety and depression, not to mention the physical benefits for focus, memory and even mobility. It is such an amazing tool, and our residents love every minute of it.

On Friday, we raised money for MacMillan Cancer Support. Throughout the week, we had been busy making biscuits and cakes ready for our coffee morning. We enjoyed shortbread biscuits, brownies, and other delicious treats, and of course, washed them all down with plenty of tea and coffee. We then all enjoyed a few quiz games......... well, those of us who didn't cheat enjoyed it anyway!! Well done to everyone who took part and made it so special.

Yesterday, our residents enjoyed their morning activity of household chores. We set up washing lines and laundry baskets, along with washing-up bowls, and other household tasks.

At Hampden Hall, we encourage our residents to keep up the everyday routines they’ve always known β€” little things like household chores can make a big difference in supporting memory and wellbeing.

They loved helping the team clean and tidy, and were full of smiles and laughter as they told us stories of their favourite jobs to do around their homes and the best inventions to make those jobs easier. The washing machine was the clear winner, followed by the hoover. What is your favourite invention? πŸ€”πŸ§ΉπŸͺ£πŸ§½

Yesterday we enjoyed a whole home baking activity where our residents made shortbread biscuits, cookies and brownies ready for our Macmillan coffee morning tomorrow.

Our residents enjoyed measuring, whisking and rolling all the dough and cutting them into shapes. Cooking and baking in our home is great and a delicious way to help fine motor skills and support our residents sensory stimulation with touch smell and taste. We all certainly enjoyed it 😊πŸ₯°πŸ°πŸͺ

Last week our residents were busy working on arts and crafts for Alzheimers Day. We painted and glued forget me knots ready to raise awareness on Sunday all while drinking too much tea and eating to many biscuits πŸ₯°πŸ˜β˜•️πŸͺ

Dementia affects millions of us in the UK and although we all have a story every case is unique. Alzheimer’s day allows every year for us to create public awareness about the disease and help spread the word on the recent happenings in the diagnosis of Dementia.

🧠 Subtle changes in smell, sleep, humour, or attention can be some of the earliest signs of dementia. Spotting them early helps carers support their loved ones and seek advice sooner.

- Trouble recognising familiar scents πŸ‘ƒ
- Difficulty understanding jokes or sarcasm πŸ˜‚
- Frequent zoning out or loss of focus πŸ‘€
- Changes in sleep patterns πŸ’€

Being aware of these early signs helps carers notice when further assessment may be needed.

Today we celebrated our carers at Hampden Hall. They all got to enjoy delicious snacks from our happy box and they received a lovely card from the directors to personally thank our care team for all their hard work. We dressed in orange to show our gratitude to the care staff for Care Workers Charity Week, even our residents got involved to thank their carers.

Our care team do such an amazing job not just the care they give but for the dignity, respect and the love and support they give each day.

Thank you for all you do! πŸ₯°πŸ‘πŸ₯³πŸ†
