Which comes first the Airline ticket, or the COVID-19 Test? This is a question we are often asked by our clients at AlphaMedicol. Our advice is to check the COVID travel regulations for the country you are going to on the UK Gov. foreign-travel-advice website. Next, check the possible dates you can travel and work out when to travel.
Most people have a 72-hour window. It’s very important not to take your test earlier than the allowed travel window. People often make the mistake of counting 3 days backwards and then taking their test early in the morning, but for an evening or night flight, this is more than 72 hours. It is likely to be rejected leading to missing your flight/holiday😟. In this case the sample should be taken the next day as the last post is usually by 5:30 pm.
The key thing is planning! For postal tests, Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to require courier services as your 72-hour window starts on Saturday and Sunday respectively, so if you want to cut down on postal costs it may be better to avoid travelling on Tuesday and Wednesday.
