Acupuncture is an ancient treatment rooted in Chinese medicine. It's based on the idea that our bodies have energy pathways called meridians, through which flows a life force known as qi (pronounced "chee"). Each meridian is linked to specific organs and functions in the body. When qi flows smoothly, it keeps us healthy and balanced. But if there's too much, too little, or a blockage in the flow of qi, it can lead to health issues.

To restore balance, acupuncturists insert thin needles at specific points along these meridians. These points are usually close to the skin's surface. By stimulating these points, acupuncture aims to bring the body back into harmony and promote wellness.

An online YouGov poll revealed that 74% of people in the UK have felt so stressed in the last year that they're unable to cope, so I thought I'd write a quick post on the top three ways that I deal with stress...

1 - Grounding. Stand or walk with your shoes and socks off in the grass outside in your garden (or any green space) and pay attention to the textures of the ground below you. Not many people know that this simple act reduces inflammation in the body which lowers your blood pressure and positively impacts your overall health.

2 - Belly breaths. By 'belly breaths' I mean deep breathing through the nose to the point your belly moves outwards and exhaling slowly. Repeating this a few times reduces your heart rate, oxygenates your body and reduces your blood pressure helping you to feel more relaxed.

3 - Do something different (no matter how small!) - My mother always used to say that a change is as good as a rest, I've found this to be very true. Making a change, as simple as walking or driving home a different route can help you to re-set your thinking pattern, allowing new thoughts and perspectives to percolate.
