A Day in the Life of a Repatriation Transfer 🌍

Repatriation work is one of the most unique and rewarding parts of what we do. Behind every journey is a family waiting, a patient needing support, and a huge amount of planning to get them home safely.

From the moment a referral comes in, our Control Room gets to work, coordinating with overseas hospitals, medical assistance companies, insurance providers, and air ambulance teams. We gather medical reports, confirm clinical clearance, plan travel routes, manage ferry or Eurotunnel bookings, and ensure everything runs safely and smoothly from start to finish.

Our repatriation crews handle everything from airport collections to long-distance European road transfers. They provide continuous care throughout the journey, reassurance at every stage, and a seamless handover back into UK healthcare on arrival.

Whether it’s bringing someone home from Europe or transferring a patient across the UK, our focus is simple: safe travel, exceptional care, and a calm, compassionate experience during one of the most stressful moments for families.

Another example of why we’re proud to do what we do. ❤️🚑

What a weekend it’s been for our events team at Western Medical Services.

We’ve now covered 5 of the 7 Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals Association over the past month, and this weekend kept the momentum going with:

👉 Wells City Carnival on Friday
👉 Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival on Saturday

Our crews were out in force once again, doing what they do best, looking after people, supporting the organisers and helping keep these huge community events running safely.

To everyone on shift: thank you.
Your hard work, calmness and teamwork, especially in busy environments like these, really does make all the difference.

And a massive shoutout to the organisers and volunteers. The amount of time and effort that goes into each carnival is unreal, and yet you deliver brilliant events year after year.

We’ve loved being part of the circuit again and we’ll see you all in 2026 🚑💚

St James Park Fire – A Critical Part of Stadium Infrastructure Lost

https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-exeter-city-fc-recover-from-the-st-james-park-fire

As many will know, a fire has caused significant damage at St James Park, including the medical room we use every match day to deliver essential clinical care.

This isn’t “just a room.”
It’s a critical part of the stadium’s safety infrastructure.

It’s where injured players are assessed.
It’s where supporters receive emergency care.
It’s where our clinicians work to keep every match safe, compliant and medically supported.

To support Exeter City Football Club through this difficult period, Western Medical Services will be providing full match-day medical cover for the home fixture on 22nd November vs Burton Albion at no cost to the club, and our usual service fee will be donated directly to the recovery fund as our contribution to the rebuild effort.

Exeter City FC is a supporter-owned club, operating without the financial backing of major private ownership. When vital infrastructure is damaged, the responsibility falls to the club, the supporters, and the partners who believe in what ECFC stands for.

Western Medical Services is proud to support a club with such strong community roots, and we know first-hand how essential these facilities are for the safety of players, staff and supporters on match day.

If you’re able to help, please consider donating to the GoFundMe linked above.

Strong infrastructure keeps people safe.
Let’s help get it rebuilt.

🚑 A Day in the Life of an Ambulance Care Assistant at Western Medical Services

Our Ambulance Care Assistants play a vital role in delivering safe, patient-centred transport every single day. Their work balances clinical awareness, compassion, communication and operational efficiency.

A typical day includes:
• Conducting vehicle, equipment and safety checks
• Coordinating with our Control Room, hospitals, wards and care providers
• Supporting patients with mobility and safe transfers
• Delivering wheelchair and stretcher-based transport
• Providing reassurance, monitoring wellbeing and maintaining dignity
• Completing documentation and ensuring compliance with CQC standards
• Working collaboratively with ACAs, ECAs, paramedics and dispatch teams

Our crews will be on site at Derrys Cross Roundabout from 22:00–04:00 on Friday 31st October and Saturday 1st November, supporting anyone who needs a bit of extra help during their night out.

If you can’t make it to us, don’t worry, just speak to any venue staff or security, and they can radio our team directly.

Whether you need medical support, a safe space to take five, to charge your phone, or simply wait for a taxi, our friendly team are here to help you get home safely 💚

The 'spooktacular' Plymouth Safe Bus team are gearing up for a busy Halloween tomorrow and will make sure those on a night out get support they need – no tricks just treatments. The mobile centre at Derrys Cross is usually parked up on Saturday nights from 10pm until 4am on Sundays but will also be available this Friday to help people in the city and make sure 31 October is not a ‘fright night’. The bright green bus will also be available on extra dates in December – Friday 5,12 and 19 as well as Christmas Eve (Wed 24 Dec) and New Year’s Eve (Wed 31 Dec). If you feel unwell or vulnerable the bus team, including trained medics, can help. The bus is a safe space and around 90% of individuals treated on board the bus are discharged at the scene by medical staff, reducing pressure on police, ambulance, and hospital services. Find the bus outside Timbervault Escape Rooms. Happy Halloween everyone 🦇 👻

🚑✨ We’re officially rated GOOD across all areas by the CQC! ✨🚑

We’re incredibly proud to share that following our recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, Western Medical Services has been rated GOOD in all areas across both our Patient Transport Services and Urgent & Emergency Care divisions.

Inspectors highlighted several areas of outstanding practice, recognising the dedication, professionalism, and compassion our teams show every single day.

This achievement is a reflection of the resilience, adaptability and relentless commitment to patient care shown by everyone across WMS, from our leadership and management teams to our amazing operational crews out on the road.

This result cements our position as a truly patient-centred, innovative and proudly independent ambulance service, and we couldn’t be prouder of the people behind it. 💚

💬 A word from our Director, Will Price

“This result is the product of genuine teamwork, of people who care deeply about what they do and who always put the patient first.

The past year has seen significant changes in leadership and direction, and this inspection marks a defining moment for us, one that sets the foundation for sustained growth, excellence and long-term stability.

I’m immensely proud of the resilience our teams have shown through change, challenge, and growth. Their dedication, compassion, and professionalism are the heartbeat of this organisation, and I want to thank every single member of the Western team for the part they’ve played in achieving this milestone.

This rating belongs to all of you.”

A huge thank-you to our incredible teams and partners for continuing to deliver care with compassion, innovation and professionalism.

Every shift, every mile, every patient — you make the difference. 💚
