We had a super training session with staff from Connect, Ayr and Ayr Food Pantry this week - great discussions about the use of supportive communication strategies and lots of Makaton signing practice! 😊👏

⭐️ FANTASTIC FRIDAY! ⭐️

Thank you to the team at Children’s Hearings Scotland for their brilliant engagement during training this week 👏

Many Children’s Panel volunteers throughout Ayrshire are now equipped with a sound knowledge of supportive speech, language and communication strategies and are also Makaton aware. The team also have a range of visual tools which will soon be available to support children and young people during hearings and are planning to undertake further Makaton training in the New Year, as well as incorporating Boardmaker signage in their Hearing Centres 👍

We are just loving everyone’s enthusiasm for the project and during training sessions - thank you! 😊💜

Claire and Jo had a lovely time at the South Ayrshire ASN Family Forum last night 😊

It was super to connect with families and other amazing services - we loved sharing information about all our Communication Friendly settings in South Ayrshire 👍

Plus we do love some colour coordination! 💙💙

The Connect hub in the Sandgate in Ayr is well on the way to being Communication Friendly 😊

They have clear Boardmaker visual signage on display to help everyone navigate the environment.

They also have visualised ‘Easy Read’ information leaflets available at the front desk with key details about all the services Connect provides - please just ask if you need one 👍

We’re so proud to be recognised as South Ayrshire’s first Communication Friendly Residential Home! We’re so proud of our amazing team and young people at Pleasantfield Cottage for making this happen!

Read below what Shona, the Registered Manager had to say:

“We were so keen to be part of the South Ayrshire Communication Friendly Environments project as our house is based in South Ayrshire and our young people attend local schools. We access local parks and businesses and have had positive experiences in using the communication boards in the community. We were already using symbols in our house but we wanted to have the same symbols so that there was symbol consistency for our young people. Our staff enjoyed the training and our young people got involved too. Jo has helped us immensely with support and training and we look forward to continuing our development and partnership with Speech and Language Therapy. We are very pleased to be South Ayrshire’s first Communication Friendly Residential Home.”
