The P7s at Glenburn Primary told us how Buddy Training will help them now and/or in the future ☺️

- ‘It will help me learn how to talk to my Buddy properly.’

- ‘Buddy Training will help me communicate with young children.’

- ‘It helps me with my little cousin and nieces & nephews!’

- ‘If I do babysitting I can use what I have learnt.’

- ‘It will help if you want to be a Nursery or P1 teacher.’

- ‘It will help me if I ever get a job to do with kids when I’m older and also with my baby cousin.’

- ‘I will know what to do if I have kids in the future and how to help with their talking.’

We are delighted with the positive impact of Buddy Training across South Ayrshire, both now and in the coming years 💜☺️🧸

A big well done to Grammar Primary who are working hard on visualising their environment ☺️

This term the focus has been the wider areas to ensure that everyone can navigate the school successfully 👏

Next stop…classrooms! ✏️📚📘

Thank you to the P7s at Glenburn Primary for telling us what they learnt from Buddy Training to help their Buddy with their talking 💜

- ‘I learned to get down to my Buddy’s level and let them lead.’

- ‘I make sure to give them 10 seconds to answer my questions and not to ask ‘what’s that?’ questions.’

- ‘To be face-to-face with them and don’t ask loads of questions - commenting and “I wonder…” are better.’

- ‘To join in games that they want to play.’

- ‘How to speak to my Buddy using hand signals and gestures.’

- ‘Give them time to answer.’

- ‘I learnt to crouch down when talking and speak more slowly.’

- ‘It is important to let them speak and you should just listen sometimes. Also reading helps them.’

- ‘I count 5 slow elephants in my head to give them thinking time.’

- ‘Understanding them and not interrupting them while they speak.’

- ‘It helped make it easier for me to talk with younger children and I enjoy talking to my Buddy more now.’

- ‘Nursery rhymes help with reading and vocabulary.’

- ‘How to engage better with smaller ones.’

Happy Friday! ☺️

Claire and Beth had a super Red Nose Day last week delivering Buddy Training to the P6s at Monkton Primary 💜

The pupils had lots of hands on practice using toys and books to make comments they could use whilst playing with their Buddies. We were also so impressed by the insightful questions about how best to support their Buddies’ speech sounds 👏

We know you will be super Buddies next session P6! Well done ☺️👍

We are very grateful to the P7 teachers at Glenburn Primary for their lovely feedback about their Buddy Training sessions before Christmas 💜

- ‘The pupils learned how to interact kindly with younger children by getting to their level, staying face-to-face and asking “I wonder…” questions.’

- ‘Their confidence and quality of interaction with the P1s has improved.’

- ‘The pupils enjoyed the practical demonstration of where to stand/sit when engaging with others.’

- ‘They really liked using the toys to practice commenting and they enjoyed using the strategies on their Buddies straight after the session.’

- ‘The training worked very well and had a highly positive impact.’

Thank you so much - we look forward to working with lots more schools for Buddy Training in the summer term ☀️🧸
