Did you know that it’s today? To celebrate, my publisher have arranged for the e-book (Kindle) version of my book, ‘I Heart Me’ to be on sale for 71p in the UK and 99 cents around the world! Yes, 71p (£0.71) ... I had to check the email twice myself.😂

I think it’s going to be that price for the whole of March.

It’s the book that teaches different techniques and strategies for self love, like the 3 stages of self love, use of visualisation, posture, self compassion, self forgiveness, and how to make practical, positive changes. ✨😊

Neck pain was what got me interested in Bowen in the first place. I’d been plagued with it for years mainly due to driving hours every day and stress. My shoulders were just below my ears lol. I’d tried everything and I had one Bowen treatment and the pain left me! I get regular maintenance Bowen for it now and it keeps it at bay. Needless to say during lockdown I’ve not been able to and I can definitely feel my neck getting tighter and more painful.

Yip I’m getting a bit obsessed about plantar fasciitis. X

Yip I’m getting a bit obsessed about plantar fasciitis. X

This is how the windlass mechanism of the foot works.

As the big toe goes up (dorsiflexes) the foot supinates (locks) and becomes a rigid lever for propulsion.

Pronation- collapsing down at the arch. Accepting force. The foot is in mobile adaptor while in contact with the ground.

If you wear arch support the foot cant pronate and accept force. It cant be a shock absorber.

That shok doesn’t just disappear.

It gets passed up the chain. The knees hips and back are forced to accept force they aren’t designed to accept.
They are doing the foot job. Or they are forced to try to do the foots job.

Since the knees and low back are bad at acting like feet, they wear out prematurely.

Supination. Rigid lever phase. Big toe dorsiflexes and locks the foot bones together.

Can you see how toe spring in shoes pulls on the plantar fascia?

Traditional padded shoes with tapered toe boxes prevent the top position.

They don’t allow for mobile adaptor phase.

You are in rigid lever phase permanently.

After adjusting to natural shoes people experience much less sore achy feet.

Why? Because they allow the foot to do its job.

Good advice x

Millions of runners get told that they pronate or supinate.

Then they get sold expensive shoes that are unique to their problem.

So runners everywhere are saying ill informed things like “I supinate” or “I pronate”.

The truth is that everyone of us pronates and supinates with every step.

What they mean is that they over pronate or over supinate.

Thats a little better. But.

What are you doing to get to a more neutral position.

Most are throwing an expensive shoe at the problem and hoping it doesn’t cause them any more significant issues.

How about we just fix the movement fault and learn to be neutral.

It’s not that difficult to control and rewire you back to neutral.

There are tons of strategies, here is one.

Widen your toe base of support so your body naturally develops the strength to keep you in the middle.

Try this little experiment.

Stand barefoot with your toes pinched to a point, like the position all those supportive running shoes put you in.

Keeping your toes planted roll your ankle side to side.

Now manually widen and splay your toes.

Now try to roll your ankle side to side again.

What do you feel?

Much more stable?
Much more balanced?
Much more neutral?

The natural toe position keeps you from over pronating or over supinating.

The shoe industry literally created a problem (fashion tapered toe boxes). Then in the unnatural unstable position their ankles and feet got weak and started caving in and out too much.

Then they created speciality shoes to fix the very problem they caused in the first place.

Duh?

Don’t buy their lies.

A “running gait expert” at a shoe store that will supposedly assess your gait and fit you with the right shoe for your “problem” is really an expert in nothing but taking your money and giving you false hope.

Bandaids on top of bandaids on top of bandaids.

Pull them off and develop strong capable feet, ankles and legs.

The body wants to fix itself. It doesn’t want to run around on crutches and bandaids.

Just watched Living with Grief with Esther Rantzen on channel 5. Really good programme and showed something I see in my clinic often ...we all do grief differently, there’s no ‘right’ time to grieve someone and we all need to talk about it more.
All the stories were heartbreaking but I think the people who don’t even get to see their loved ones because of covid must suffer so much. Can’t imagine how you come to terms with it. ❤️

On Friday 5th February, we all woke up to the tragic news that Emma Robertson Coupland and Nicole Anderson had been brutally murdered by Steven Robertson. The heartbreak we feel as a community is overwhelming. The devastating impact upon Emma and Nicole’s family and friends is hard to imagine.

It is important that we never forget the loss of these two beautiful women who had so much to live for. Across the UK, a woman is killed by a current or former partner every four days. If women tell us they fear for their lives, we must believe them. Whoever we are, we should look out for signs of controlling behaviour and take it seriously if it is happening to us or someone we know.

Good advice about something I struggle with

Understanding Plantar Fasciitis (Fasciosis).

The plantar fascia is the last line of defense when it comes to holding the foot together.

Without it your calcaneus would literally rip apart from the metatarsal bones.

Hear that again.

It’s the LAST line of defense.

Thats important to know when looking to fix your issues.

PF happens when the other parts aren’t doing their job properly.

The hips, glutes, legs, calves, and intrinsic foot muscles all are the causes of over stressing the pf tissue.

Weakness and movement mistakes give the body no other option but to rely on that last line of defense.

The pf tissue is supposed to ONLY assist in weight bearing and force absorption.

If you have pf pain, you are asking the pf tissue to do more than its designed to do.

So how do you fix the issue?

You ask the rest of the body to step up its game and start pulling its weight.

I hear people on pf facebook sites all the time talking about inflammation and other conditions causing pf.

They struggle to hear me out when i say that pf is a mechanical issue 100% of the time.

Yes, other conditions can cause the pf to flare up over the threshold of pain. But the issue is still mechanical.

Millions of people are teetering right on the edge of pf pain and any one little thing can push you over that edge.

But the underlying mechanical issue is always there until you address it, pain or no pain.

-get full range of motion back in all the joints.
-work on foot mobility.
-move more in a natural foot state, barefoot or natural shoes.
-GET STRONGER!!
-work on good movement mechanics (skill).
-improve work capacity.
-recover fully from that work.
