After today, I’m off for a week.

Not because I’m exhausted.
Not because I’ve hit burnout.
But because I built rest into my life.

There was a time I only stopped when my body made me.
When pushing through felt like strength.
When slowing down felt unsafe.

Now I plan my pauses.

Rest isn’t a reward.
It’s part of the structure.

A week to swim.
Walk the shore.
Read.
Breathe.

No drama.
No collapse.
Just rhythm.

This is what sustainable living looks like 🤍

Mental health isn’t about “fixing” yourself.
It’s about learning how to live inside your own mind and body without being at war with it.

Counselling can help you:

• understand why you react the way you do
• regulate your nervous system instead of fighting it
• untangle old patterns that no longer serve you
• stop carrying everything alone
• build emotional resilience
• develop clearer boundaries
• feel less anxious, less overwhelmed, less stuck
• make decisions from clarity rather than fear
• experience more baseline calm

It’s not about becoming someone new.
It’s about becoming more at home in who you already are.

Therapy doesn’t remove life’s challenges.
It strengthens your capacity to meet them.

And sometimes… that changes everything.

Today, let’s talk relationship counselling 💛

People often wait until things are unbearable before seeking couples therapy.

But you don’t need to be at breaking point.

You might come because:
• communication keeps going in circles
• you feel miles apart emotionally
• trust has been shaken
• intimacy feels complicated
• you love each other but you’re exhausted

Couples counselling gives you structured, supported conversations that are hard to have at home.

No sides.
No blame.
No shaming.

Just honest understanding and new ways forward.

It’s a lovely Tuesday morning in Ayr. Fresh but not too cold. Teaching yoga at Lunalove Pilates is an absolute dream on a Tuesday at 10am. Then it’s a quick turnaround to be in work for 12pm for my first client at 12.30pm.

Tomorrow is my day off and my daughters birthday so looking forward to that 💛☀️🤍🍾

What does trauma informed practice mean?

Trauma-informed practice means I pay attention to safety before anything else.

Before insight.
Before change.
Before challenge.

It means I notice pace, choice, and consent.

I check whether something feels manageable, not just meaningful.
I understand that coping strategies once helped someone survive.

Trauma-informed therapy isn’t about pushing.

It’s about creating the conditions where a person can gently meet themselves.

A small but important update 🤍

You may have noticed a change in my business name.

Due to Solas being a copyrighted name that I’m unable to trade under in any capacity, I’ve made the decision to return to my original and legal business name:

Sally Railley Counselling & Psychotherapy

While Solas held meaning for me personally, what matters most is the work itself and that hasn’t changed.

Same therapist.
Same values.
Same way of working.

Just a name that I’m able to use clearly, ethically, and without restriction.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported my work and to those who continue to sit alongside me in the counselling room.

Sally 🤍

Finding the right counsellor is a bit like finding the right pair of shoes.

They can look good on paper.
They can come highly recommended.
They can even be technically the right size.

And still… something just doesn’t fit.

In counselling, the fit matters.
Not just qualifications or approaches, but how you feel in the room.

Do you feel:
• Safe enough to pause and think?
• Comfortable enough to be quiet?
• Understood without having to over-explain?
• Able to be honest, even when it’s messy?

If you leave a session feeling tense, guarded, or like you’re performing, that doesn’t mean therapy “isn’t for you.”
It often just means this isn’t your counsellor.

And that’s okay.

Good therapy isn’t about pushing through discomfort to be “a good client.”
It’s about finding a relationship where your nervous system can settle enough for real work to happen.

You’re allowed to choose.
You’re allowed to change your mind.
You’re allowed to wait for the right fit.

Because when the fit is right, therapy doesn’t feel like hard work all the time —
it feels like being met, exactly where you are.

It’s Friday again!

A full day of clients and supervisees today in airdrie.

I am feeling really good today, looking forward to the weekend! How’s you all doing?

29/01/2026

I decided to give myself an extra day off this week as time back for the day off I worked at the beginning of the month.

It’s all about balance, which can be more challenging when you work for yourself!

If you’re feeling the winter blues, you’re not doing anything wrong.

Winter can feel heavy.
The days are shorter, the light is softer, and energy often dips without us really noticing why.

You might feel flatter, more tired, less motivated, or more inward than usual.

Our bodies and nervous systems are sensitive to seasons.
Less daylight, colder days, and a slower pace naturally invite more rest.

Alongside kindness and gentler expectations, a few simple things can help:
• taking a daily vitamin D supplement
• getting outside in daylight, even briefly
• keeping some structure to your days
• warm, nourishing food and drinks
• movement that feels supportive rather than demanding
• staying connected, even in small ways

Nothing here is about fixing yourself.
It’s about supporting your system.

If things feel harder right now, you’re not behind.
You’re simply moving through winter.

And like all seasons, it will ease, especially when you meet yourself with care along the way.
