If your home has an open fire, in addition to getting your chimney swept regularly, you can take these steps to prevent chimney fires:

• Do not light fires using flammable liquids such as petrol or paraffin.
• Do not burn paper or rubbish on fires in the grate.
• Do not overload the fire with fuel.
• Use a spark-guard when the fire is unattended to prevent embers setting fire to furnishings or carpets.
• Go into your loft/roof space occasionally to check the chimney when the fire is alight. Check for smoke or soot coming from cracks, defective brickwork or mortar joints. Defects in your chimney could cause a fire. Only enter the loft if it is safe to do so and you are physically able to.

In the event of an e-bike or e-scooter lithium-ion battery fire do not attempt to extinguish the fire. GET OUT, STAY OUT, CALL 999.

The fire can be ferocious, can keep reigniting and be extremely difficult to extinguish. Vapours from the burning battery are toxic and can spread quickly, cutting off escape routes.

With the kids on a school break there can always be the challenge of keeping them 'entertained' as well as day to day life still needing your attention ....and possibly after not too long, even some me time for your own sanity :)
This may lead to some increased time for youngsters online. While consoles/PC gaming, tablets, laptops, 'Switches' etc. do a grand job on the entertainment factor with all the wonderful high definition graphics showing detail in real time peer-to-peer playing be it sports or fantasy games, this also can expose kids and adults a like to other risks such as cyberbullying, excessive time spent playing online games, to unscrupulous games which encourage children to pay for improved avatars or other content with an adults credit or debit cards.
