Mrionette lines seen on the left here are caused by loss of volume in the face. Believe it or not, the ageing process starts at the age of 27. There around 13 fat pads on either side of the face, these are composed of good fat as opposed to bad fat that we all love to hate. These good fat pads have a very funtional role in our faces. They help muscle tissue slide across the face and they also give our face definition especially in our younger years. These fat pads are responsible for “the apple cheeks of youth” that we hear about. At 27 these fat pads start to shrink and we lose volume in our face. It is not very noticeable at first but as the ageing process continues in later years we also start to lose volume in our skin, facial muscles and the bone tissue of the skull. The result is the skin starts to get pulled down by gravity and marionette lines and joweling can appear. The rate at which they appear varies from person to person, it doesn’t matter if you are an olympic athlete or Hollywood suoerstar you will eventualy get marionettes and jowling at some point eventually. The good news is though that help is at hand.
