This one may be useful for all you neurodivergent smashers out there 🌻💜🌻💙🌻
Equally though, for anyone else - sometimes you just need a slightly different way of looking at things. I hope you all know by now that I truly believe that any practice can be adjusted to suit your needs; that goes for meditation and yoga 🤗

This change in framing common humanity was a revelation for me. It made self compassion practice so much more accessible and left me feeling lot more capable of connecting to common humanity.

As always, feel free to comment or to message me directly with any questions 🩷

🍦🍪🍕 Mindful Eating! 🍇🍝🍯

For those who are not familiar: mindful eating is a common beginner's practice where you take the time to feel, smell and taste a food item before swallowing it. Traditionally a raisin is used.

I have yet to meet anyone who loves Mindful Eating as practice.
It can feel a bit weird and awkward, or even yucky.

I'm no different - it's not a practice I would choose. But yesterday an opportunity presented itself and curiosity won over dislike.

I asked someone who does not meditate if they wanted to do a mindful eating practice with me. We chose two different food items; one fairly plain, another quite rich.

Doing this practice with someone was - dare I use the word - fun! Noticing anticipations, expectations, flavours led to a much deeper discussion about habits of mind and living on autopilot.

So here's my takeaway (pun intended)
* Choose items you have a strong expectation about (really like/dislike)
* Do it with someone
* Don't be afraid to ask each other questions beyond the immediate experience

Enjoy 🙏🩷

It's a beautifully sunny Sunday morning here, so I leave you with a poem by Mary Oliver called No Voyage.

It's about making peace with the facts of life as they are - something I've been contemplating this last week whilst revisiting doing nothing meditation,

Hope you enjoy this poem and this beautiful day 🩷🙏🩷

I've mentioned this before, but it's worth mentioning again: if you want a nice night out, but you don't love busy, noisy venues then I can highly recommend the Candlelight concerts. Bonus: they tell you the order of the program, there's always an interval, the shows aren't very long, there are clear instructions for everything.

For me, there is nothing that allows me be in the moment more than music I love. This song happens to be one of my favourites and I genuinely had goose bumps listening to it ❤️

"Really? How does cleaning your robohoover cradle have ANYTHING to do with mindfulness?"

Well, I'm glad you asked 😋

I wanted to talk today a little a bit about how I use mindfulness to help me deal with tedious tasks. Now, I know there are people out there who love cleaning, but I am not one of them. And cleaning a cleaning appliance breaks my brain 😂

Obviously, cleaning is necessary so every now and then, I like to apply a bit of mindfulness to it.
Not necessarily in a sense of observing the sensations involved (although, that can be interesting! Feel free to try!) , but more to remind myself why I am doing this task.

And often, it brings to light reasons I haven't even thought about before.

Keeping things clean usually helps them last longer. This is better for the environment, and it saves money in the long run. Having a clean space to relax in is nice. It helps out the other people in my house, because I have done something they don't need to do. The other people in my house get to benefit from living in a nice space. You get the idea.

There is nothing lofty or amazingly interesting going on here, but I often find it enough to feel like I am doing something worthwhile, even when it seems incredibly mundane.
Finding joy in the tiny little aspects of life definitely makes me a happier person. 🤗

I go to a book club every month and one of the topics we talked about last week was authenticity. Specifically, how difficult it can be when social media presents us with all these expectations and ideals.

Evolutionary speaking, wanting to look like you know what you're doing is a wise move. Showing weakness or incompetence would have been the end of you in the not so distant past.

In reality, we're all messy. Inside and outside , in varying degrees. Denying those facts doesn't make them go away. Accepting them doesn't make them go away either but it does open up some options. The first step to change is actually knowing what is going on.
And maybe the change is that you finally accept that you're going to have a floordrobe for the rest of your life, and that's totally ok 😋

Bonjour! Today I wanted to chat a little bit about Executive Function and how to accommodate struggles with that in your mindfulness practice.
The STOP practice is simple and easy to remember so it feels low effort. Hope this helps ❤️

Hmmm, what are we making here? Any guesses? 🤗

I had never used resin before and found myself absolutely fascinated with the initial curing process - it takes a while for the bubbles to come out, watching them emerge ever so slowly was very soothing 🩵

Have a lovely bank holiday Monday
