Recovery rarely follows a straight line. It is often uncertain, emotional, and deeply personal. Behind every rehabilitation journey is a family navigating change, hope, and the need for the right support at the right time.

We are continually reminded why specialist rehabilitation matters through the experiences shared by those closest to the people we support.

“Mum came to Bagshot Park for two weeks of rehabilitation following major emergency surgery. The team were able to admit her at very short notice and provided an excellent service to her, my father and I. The facility is excellent, with modern, clean rooms and onsite physiotherapy. The whole team were incredibly supportive and answered every question I had during her stay. A huge thank you to all the team.”

Stories like this reflect what thoughtful, responsive rehabilitation can mean during critical moments of recovery.

Equally powerful are the longer term outcomes families witness over time.

“I can speak very highly of the service and quality of care offered at Kingston Rehabilitation Centre. My mother suffered a serious stroke and is now restricted to a wheelchair, but the physiotherapy team saw that as no barrier. They supported her with standing exercises, exceeding what we thought possible. Our thanks to the entire rehab team at Kingston. I can also recommend the high quality speech and language therapy offered by the centre.”

Rehabilitation is never just about clinical input. It is about restoring confidence, rebuilding independence, and supporting people to achieve outcomes that genuinely improve quality of life.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a chance to recognise that brain injury can change life in an instant, and that recovery is rarely simple, quick, or linear.

For many people, the impact is not just physical. It can affect memory, concentration, communication, mood, fatigue and confidence. Families often describe it as learning a new way of living, together.

At CHD Living, we support people living with brain injury through specialist rehabilitation, complex care and care at home. Our focus is on what matters most to each person: rebuilding independence where possible, improving function and mobility, supporting cognition and wellbeing, and helping people feel safe, understood and hopeful as they take the next steps.

This month, we’re standing with everyone living with brain injury, and the families, clinicians and carers who support them. Progress can be measured in small wins, and those wins matter.

Pressure on specialist hospital services, particularly neuro rehabilitation and tracheostomy or ventilator support, continues to create significant challenges across the health and care system. Delays in accessing appropriate beds can have a very real impact on individuals, families, and clinical teams alike.

What is often less visible, however, is the vital role that community based rehabilitation and complex care services play in supporting recovery, independence, and long term wellbeing. With the right clinical oversight, governance, and multidisciplinary expertise, many individuals do not require extended hospital stays to achieve positive outcomes.

Specialist rehabilitation and complex care delivered in community settings, or within a person’s own home, can frequently provide a more appropriate environment, supporting comfort, continuity, and quality of life. There is also increasing recognition that well-structured community pathways are not simply alternatives to hospital care, but an essential component of a sustainable and responsive system. Models that combine therapy, nursing, and specialist clinical support outside of acute settings can deliver strong outcomes while helping to relieve pressure on highly constrained NHS resources.

That is where providers such as CHD Living can play an important role. Through specialist rehabilitation services, complex care expertise, and care at home pathways, CHD Living supports individuals with a wide range of needs, including neuro rehabilitation, tracheostomy care, ventilator support, and long term complex conditions. For individuals, families, and professionals exploring appropriate care options, timely access to specialist, person centred support can make a meaningful difference to both recovery and overall wellbeing.

We are proud to share that CHD Surrey Ltd has been recognised in the very first Surrey LTD Report for 2025, published by Grant Thornton UK.

As the inaugural edition of this county focused analysis, the report provides a valuable benchmark of the strength, resilience, and economic contribution of Surrey’s privately owned business community. Being included carries particular weight given this is the first time the study has been conducted for the region.

The findings present a compelling picture of Surrey’s economic performance. The county’s top 100 privately owned businesses collectively generated £13 billion in turnover, representing year on year growth, while employment across these organisations increased significantly. The data reinforces Surrey’s position as one of the UK’s most economically dynamic and competitive business environments.

For CHD Surrey Ltd, this recognition reflects long term investment, disciplined governance, and a sustained focus on responsible growth. Operating within health and social care requires financial resilience, robust oversight, and a commitment to balancing commercial sustainability with meaningful social impact.

The report also highlights the broader strength of Surrey’s economy, from exceptional sector growth to rising remuneration levels and strong international connectivity. Together, these indicators signal a business landscape defined by adaptability, innovation, and long term ambition.

We are delighted to see CHD Surrey Ltd acknowledged as part of this first county assessment and look forward to continuing our contribution to Surrey’s evolving business and care landscape.

We’re proud to share that our Assistant Psychologist, Bipana Thapa, recently attended the Headway Conference: A New Me, where she showcased CHD Living’s latest neurorehabilitation research.

Her poster, based on a pilot study from our Bagshot Park Neurorehabilitation Centre, was displayed in the main exhibition hall - drawing interest from professionals, individuals with lived experience, and fellow researchers alike.

The study highlights the real, measurable difference that specialist neurorehabilitation can make - from boosting independence to reducing long-term support needs. It’s powerful proof that recovery is not only possible, but backed by data.

Reflecting on the event, Bipana said:

“It was a brilliant opportunity to share what we’re doing at CHD Living. The conference had such a warm, personal feel - I left with new ideas, fresh perspectives, and even more drive to keep pushing for better outcomes.”

Christmas Day was truly special across our CHD Living homes. Creating happiness daily is at the heart of what we do - and Christmas was no exception. Our care homes and rehabilitation centres treat one another like family, and a wonderful festive energy came to life on the day.

From singing together and sharing prayers to enjoying Christmas lunch, pantomimes and plenty of laughter, every home celebrated in its own unique way. We’re so grateful to our incredible teams for helping to make the day so joyful and meaningful for everyone.

As the year draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on all that 2025 has brought across CHD Living - and what a year it’s been.

From summer fêtes and fireworks to Halloween discos and heartwarming Christmas markets, our homes have been alive with celebration, joy and community spirit. We’ve welcomed school choirs, hosted shared lunches, embraced art, music and intergenerational moments, and continued to create memories that truly matter.

This year, we were proud to receive recognition across several leading sector awards - with a standout highlight being our win at the HealthInvestor Awards 2025, where we were named Residential Elderly Care Provider of the Year - Medium Group. A landmark moment for our entire team, and a reflection of the care, compassion and dedication shown every single day.

We’ve also continued to invest in what matters, from innovative technologies to new developments like Willow Grange and Wey Meadows, which will open their doors in 2026 with connection, comfort and community at their core.

Throughout it all, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to Creating Happiness Daily. It’s the heart of everything we do.

To our teams, families, friends and partners - thank you. Your continued support and belief in our mission means the world.

Wishing you all a joyful Christmas and a peaceful New Year. We’re looking forward to 2026 and everything it brings.

Remembering, Reflecting, Honouring.

This Remembrance Day, our CHD Living homes and services came together in heartfelt tribute to those who served - and continue to serve - in times of war, conflict and peace.

From quiet moments of reflection and handmade poppy displays, to poignant poetry readings, wreath-laying and remembrance-themed activities, each of our teams found beautiful ways to mark the day with dignity, gratitude and love.

Across generations, we stood still at 11am yesterday, to remember the fallen, to honour the survivors, and to give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy today.

We’re proud to share a few moments from across the CHD Living family, where the spirit of remembrance brought residents, relatives, team members and local communities together.

We will remember them.

In September 2024, Nigel, an HGV driver, suffered a devastating brain stem stroke – a life-changing acquired brain injury that left him with severe balance issues, speech difficulties, a tracheostomy, and a PEG feeding tube.

Transferring to Bagshot Park Neurorehabilitation Centre, Nigel began a determined journey of recovery with our expert multidisciplinary team.

Over four months, Nigel progressed from being wheelchair-dependent to walking unaided indoors. With the support of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy, he also regained functional speech and learned to manage his PEG independently.

Despite early setbacks, he was successfully decannulated after 189 days – a testament to both his perseverance and the coordinated care he received.

Today, on World Stroke Day, we honour Nigel’s courage and the collaborative, person-centred rehabilitation that makes such milestones possible.
