Spring cleaning the tea drawer 🌷 ☀️. When procrastination reaches new levels, I like to organise things and put things in rainbow order 🌈, and everything feels ok, even just for a few minutes, again 😉.
Happy Spring Equinox (for yesterday)

Leg up. Sitting down, as directed, and prepping my anti-inflammatory 🌈 foods.
I love nothing more than having a fridge stocked with prepped foods so a meal can be assembled in minutes.
The old roasted Mediterranean veg 🍆 🧅 🫑 🍅 with some olive oil, garlic bulbs and rosemary, act as wonderful plant medicine to help provide my body with polyphenols to reduce inflammation, support healthy gut microbes and help repair.

Ice ice🧊baby 🥶.

I was lent this Cryo-cuff by my lovely physio , which I have been using 3 x a day since the op to aid swelling and pain. I find it very effective. The cryo-cuff creates pressure on area along with allowing ice cold water to flow around the area. Safer than putting an ice pack straight from the freezer which can cause skin burns and be too cold for the delicate skin.

I’ve been taking myself outside in the morning and sitting with it on for 20 mins. This also gets the all important daylight ☀️ in my eyes and regulate my circadian rhythm to aid good quality sleep 🛌. Sleep is critical in the healing process. A huge amount of our cellular repair and immune function happens when we 😴. Studies have shown that just 15 mins of daylight into the eyes before 11am can hugely benefit your quality of sleep.

Rehydrating💧, on the day of surgery, you aren’t allowed to eat before theatre, so depending on surgery time it can be quite a long time without any fuel.
I’m a big fan of these electrolyte drops by , which I use during and after exercise often. They are a lovely clean formula of minerals without any sweeteners or extras.
As soon as I came out surgery I downed a whole bottle to help kick start some recovery.

Often these extra and sweeteners harm our gut microbes and can impact immunity, along with adding in more things for our body to detox out. Especially after an operation I don’t want my body to be having more work to do.
These electrolytes allow you to make your own sports drinks basically, you just drop into water, which I also add some form of glucose. In this case, it was some squash which only contains fruit and sugar.

And this is why I am terrible at WFH!
Choc Avo mousse went to the top of my to do list today, when there are far more pressing business matters to get on with!
I always have and always will be, an admin procrastinator.
**
This was damn good though, and the kids will be delighted later when they get theirs.
A delicious nourishing pudding, made with avos, cacao powder, almond milk and maple syrup. Topped with some cacao nibs and raspberries. It gave me a perfect lift to get through some more of those boring jobs on the list.
**
So many superfoods in one!

Anyone else avoiding the Jan admin?

Anyone looking for a retreat chef, you need look no further.
To not have to lift a finger in the kitchen for a few days, was so restorative! Thank you

Just back from an incredible reset, a Cotswold retreat with . The most important thing for my well-being and something I now plan to do every year.
4 days of relaxing, breathing, meditating, yoga, walking and being cooked for (by the incredible ).

Nutrient dense deliciousness, made with buckwheat, almond flour and eggs so energy levels are balanced throughout the morning. Topped with Greek yog, peanut butter drizzle and some honey 🍯 yum 🤤.

Find the recipe on Lizzi loves healthy website, it’s called Blueberry Buckwheat pancakes 🥞

Get involved and be curious 🧐
That’s what I encourage all the children I have the pleasure of working with in schools, when it comes to what’s on their plate.
***
We know that the more involved children are with the food they eat, the more likely they are to make healthier choices.
***
Growing 🌱, meal planning, shopping, peeling🥕, chopping, prepping, cooking 🧑‍🍳, even just laying the table, it all counts.
***
Plus talking about food and understanding the different food groups and what they do in the body, makes it easier for children to make those healthy choices.
***
They are ours for only such a short period of time, and I’m passionate about giving them the education so they have the tools to choose a healthy future themselves.

Breakfast on the go.
I’m generally one of those people that does need food in the morning to help me function.
While just a coffee may help short term, eating something nutritious will make a huge difference to the rest of my day - energy and mood.
***
This morning I grabbed nuts, kefir yoghurt and a crunchy organic apple.
***
While it’s not perfect, and not the cheapest option, it has all the components to a healthy meal. Protein, fibre, healthy fats, plus millions of beneficial probiotics, supporting my immune system and good digestive health all round.

Kids don’t like greens? Reluctant to try veg other than a cucumber?
Grow your own!
***
One strategy I hugely encourage when working with parents is to get children involved as much as you can with the journey of that food to the table and growing your own is such a powerful way to do this.
***
It doesn’t have to be as extensive as this McGreggor set up my Dad has managed this summer 👏, but if a child has popped some seeds into the ground and been involved in cultivating it into something to eat, they are HUGELY more likely to eat it.
***
Even just some cress or basil on a window sill, or those mega easy bags of tomatoes that can thrive on a tiny patio area.

Loving these in this heat.
Made for me, as I’m always in a dash… plus it’s just sparkling water flavoured with wonky fruit that would have just been thrown away. Delicious flavours and really hydrating.
I’ve been grabbing a lovely cold one out the fridge on my school run in the afternoon for a quick pick me up. Sometimes I might even treat the kids to one, it’s a great healthy fizzy drink alternative.
