What are your thoughts?

Do you swear by power plates? Or perhaps you use them for another reason altogether?

Genuinely curious 👇🏼

I was always told growing up that when you’re in Makkah or Madinah, you’re not there to enjoy yourself

You’re there for Umrah, for worship, and you shouldn’t be thinking about food at all. I understand where that mindset comes from, and I respect the intention behind it

The purpose of the journey is spiritual, reflective, grounding. It’s not about indulgence, excess, or turning the experience into a holiday centred around eating

That part is obvious and doesn’t need arguing

→ Where I disagree is the idea that looking after yourself somehow takes away from that purpose…

Respecting why you’re there doesn’t require you to deprive yourself completely, and it definitely doesn’t require suffering to prove sincerity

You still wake up hungry. You still walk a lot, pray a lot, think a lot. Your body doesn’t switch off just because the environment is sacred, and expecting it to function well without fuel doesn’t suddenly make you more focused or present

There’s a belief that extreme discomfort equals devotion. But if eating properly helps you feel calmer, more settled, and physically capable, then it supports the experience rather than distracts from it

The issue isn’t food itself, it’s excess, distraction, and losing the point

Having a decent hotel meal doesn’t undo your intention. It doesn’t cancel the effort you’re making, and it doesn’t mean you’re suddenly obsessed with worldly things. It just means you’re human, with a body that still has basic needs

Extreme restriction rarely makes people more spiritual or present. More often, it makes them tired, irritable, and mentally checked out, which helps no one and adds nothing to the experience

Balance isn’t disrespect. Moderation isn’t weakness. You can honour the journey fully while still looking after yourself, and those two things don’t compete with each other

A few things I did daily to stay on top of things

- Stayed on top of my 2-3L of bottled water intake

- Ate LOTS of fruit

- Ate at least 2 sources of Protein minimum whilst I was there

- Power-napped wherever possible. Even for 15-20 minutes

For those who have performed their Umrah/Hajj, how did you approach your nutrition? Let me know below

A weight loss reminder from Makkah

You really ought to watch this. Because so many of you are approaching your steps the wrong way and it’s no wonder you don’t sustain it

PS - in this video I’m referring to the number of steps it took me from my hotel room to the haram

Every year people say, “this time it’ll be different.”

A new year arrives, motivation is high, and suddenly weight loss feels like it needs a brand-new approach….

New programmes appear, new challenges are promoted, and everything is framed as if the old methods stopped working overnight

→ But the uncomfortable truth is that the rules haven’t changed. Not for South Asians. Not for anyone

The body still responds to the same fundamentals it always has. Energy intake matters. Daily movement matters. Consistency matters. Time and patience matter. None of that resets because the calendar does

→ January is noisy because marketing is noisy

Coaches repackage the same principles with fresh names, fresh graphics, and fresh promises, which can make it feel like there’s always a missing piece you haven’t tried yet

In reality, most people don’t need a new method

They need to repeat the basics long enough for them to work.

Doing the same things year after year and hoping for a different result doesn’t lead to change

It leads to frustration and disappointment, not because someone lacks willpower, but because biology doesn’t respond to hope or hype. It responds to behaviour done consistently

This year doesn’t need another reset or shortcut. It needs fewer promises and more follow-through. The boring stuff still works. It always has. Always will

I’ve coached every type of client

And this image right here is something I want you to read carefully

❌ On one side you’ve got random workouts, guessed reps, and no record of what you did last time

✅ On the other, the same few movements, reps written down, and small progress you can actually build on

One kettlebell looks limiting until you stop improvising

For women who don’t want the gym, this is exactly how home training works

✅You repeat the same core lifts

✅Track your reps, and aim to do a little more over time

No pressure, no crowds, no decision fatigue

Just a simple plan you can follow without overthinking

I’ve been coaching for over 10 years, and around 70% of my clients train from home

Not because they can’t handle the gym, but because consistency is easier when life already feels busy and loud….

You don’t need more equipment or motivation, you need structure and something you can stick to long enough for it to work
