EMS Lifts

EMS Lifts Mobility Made Simple. EMS has its roots firmly imbedded in the service and maintenance area of mobility lifting equipment.

EMS has built up a wealth of expertise in the sales, installation, service and the maintenance of Stairlifts, Through Floor Lifts, Step Lifts, Bath Lifts and Hoists. Our area of operation allows us to have more Engineers per square mile than almost all the larger national companies, so that we can continually give you the response time you need. It is our commitment to providing outstanding customer service that led us to open the largest showroom in the UK of full size working Stairlifts and other disabled persons lifting equipment. We felt it vital to provide a facility where there is always a professional advisor on hand to explain the various features of the equipment on display and to help you choose and try out all those you wish to. We will be able to give you some general pricing information when you are here, though in order to give you a more accurate quote we will need to carry out a free home survey.

We’ve published a new piece exploring a question that would have felt like science fiction not long ago.

What role could humanoid robots realistically play in elderly care?

Rather than focusing on hype, the article looks at why companionship robots are gaining attention, where they could genuinely support ageing at home, and where the ethical, emotional, and practical concerns start to surface.

It also challenges whether technology should supplement care, replace parts of it, or force us to rethink what care actually means.

This isn’t about predictions. It’s about preparedness.

If you’re involved in mobility, housing, health, or ageing policy, the implications are closer than many realise. Share your thoughts below 👇

As technology evolves, the idea of using a humanoid robot for elderly care is moving from science fiction to a domestic reality.

For many people, reduced mobility brings an assumption that moving home is inevitable. In reality, that choice is far more nuanced.

As the UK population ages, “ageing in place” is increasingly seen not just as a preference, but a practical alternative to retirement housing or residential care.

Simple home adaptations - particularly stairlifts - can remove one of the biggest barriers to staying put: safe access between floors.

Beyond the emotional value of familiar surroundings, there’s a clear financial and logistical argument worth considering. One-time home adaptations often compare favourably to the long-term costs, disruption, and loss of independence that can come with moving.

We’ve explored this balance in a recent article, looking at when staying at home makes sense, when it doesn’t, and why the conversation deserves more nuance than it usually gets.

Caregiving comes with costs we don’t talk about enough.

After more than 20 years in the UK mobility sector, Matthew Armstrong, Sales Director at EMS Lifts, has seen first-hand how caregiving quietly reshapes careers, finances, health, and long-term security - often in ways that aren’t visible at the time decisions are made.

This article reflects on the hidden economic and personal costs of caregiving, from lost earnings and pension contributions to the physical and mental toll placed on those supporting loved ones. It also looks at the role of home adaptations as part of a wider effort to preserve independence and reduce pressure on caregivers.

An important read for anyone involved in care, mobility, housing, or workforce policy - and a reminder that caregiving is not just a personal responsibility, but a societal one.

Not every good decision in our industry is the fastest one.

There’s constant pressure to move quicker - faster quotes, faster installs, faster growth.

But when you’re working in people’s homes, speed isn’t the same as progress - especially when they're counting on you for mobility solutions that deliver.

Often the right decision looks slower on paper:

Taking the time for another visit

Asking the question that’s easy to skip

Letting the process breathe so the right solution is found

Those choices rarely show up in short-term metrics.

They do show up in fewer issues, better outcomes, and long-term trust. In an industry built on access, safety, and independence, that’s worth protecting - even when urgency is louder.

Choosing a stairlift is rarely a simple decision.

Between different staircase layouts, user needs, funding options, and a rapidly evolving product market, it’s a purchase that carries far more weight than people often expect - both practically and emotionally.

We’ve put together a comprehensive stairlift buying guide that breaks down the key considerations, from staircase design and user requirements to the role of professional assessment and modern innovations in the sector.

The aim is simple: to bring clarity to a decision that’s often made under pressure, and to share what we’ve learned from decades of real-world installations.

Worth a read for anyone involved in accessibility, home adaptation, or mobility planning.

Buying a stairlift is a big purchase that you're likely to only have to do once. Our team of experts help advise on the most suitable stairlift for your home.

The best part of our work often happens quietly.

It’s not the products.

It’s not the installs.

It’s not even the finished result.

It’s the small moments in between:

A technician taking extra time to explain things properly to a customer so they feel confident.

A team member spotting a small detail that avoids a potential future issue.

A job that runs smoothly because everyone front and back end did their bit.

These moments don't create national headlines, but they’re the reason projects succeed and trust is built with our clients.

We're proud of our team for the standards they hold - especially when no one’s watching.
