Did you know that dummies can cause dental issues for children?

Below is an example of what dummy use can do to teeth. Misalignment, protruding teeth and narrow jaws are just a few reasons why dummies should be used with caution.

Useful tips:

1. Swap to orthodontic dummies which reduce the risk of misalignment.

2. Never dip the dummy in sugar or honey. This can lead to severe decay.

3. Try to stop using the dummy by 2-3 years old as the teeth can self correct.

4. Visit the dentist when your child is a year old or when the first tooth erupts to ensure they get used to seeing the dentist.

Did you ever wonder why a toothache sometimes turns into a headache?

The answer lies in the trigeminal nerve, one of the largest and most complex nerves in the head. This nerve carries sensory signals from the face, including your teeth, jaw, and gums, straight to the brain. When a tooth is inflamed or infected, it can overstimulate the trigeminal nerve, which may then trigger pain signals that spread to the head, causing a headache.

The solution take painkillers in the first instance if you can and need it and then book yourself an emergency appointment so that we can resolve the dental issue.

Did you know you shouldn’t rinse your mouth after using toothpaste? If your parents taught you to rinse with water ( like mine did) then this means the fluoride in the toothpaste is not given a chance to strengthen your teeth.
