Trigger warning: sexual abuse

Some of you may be aware of videos shared on social media at the weekend. We are aware this is a distressing time for those directly affected by abuse. We know that abuse also affects friends, family and members of the deaf community.

SignHealth has information about the specialist support we have available as well as details of external support on our website: https://signhealth.org.uk/health-wellbeing/support-for-those-who-have-been-affected/

We want , join us today.

Finally NHS England has published an updated Accessible Information Standard (AIS). This includes a sixth step – review. This means healthcare providers should regularly monitor if they are meeting the AIS.

We hope the changes will improve NHS accountability, and reduce health inequalities for deaf people. We also know our poor experiences of healthcare will not change overnight. There is a long way to go, but this is a step in the right direction. We will continue to hold the NHS to account and campaign to remove barriers to healthcare for deaf people.

Tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm a powerful documentary "Poisoned: Killer in the Post" will be broadcast about the tragic death of Immy Nunn.

Sadly, Immy was let down by a range of different healthcare providers as she struggled with her mental health. Her needs as a deaf person were continuously not met. The recent inquest into her death highlighted systemic barriers for deaf patients, especially the lack of access to BSL interpreters.
