School dinners are changing… but here’s what parents need to know 👇

The government is proposing updates to school food standards for the first time in over a decade.

The aim?
✔️ Improve nutrition
✔️ Reduce sugar and ultra-processed foods
✔️ Support children’s health

And on paper… that sounds like a really positive step.

But here’s what I see working with families every day 👇

If your child is a fussy or sensory eater, sudden changes to food can backfire.

Less familiar foods
More pressure to eat
Higher expectations

👉 often leads to:
food refusal
increased anxiety
or children eating less overall

And early trials are already showing some children are opting out of school meals altogether

So this isn’t about whether the changes are “good” or “bad”…

It’s about recognising that:
👉 Children don’t just need healthier food
👉 They need support to learn how to eat it

Because without that…
More rules ≠ better eating

💛 If mealtimes feel stressful right now, you’re not doing anything wrong.
There’s a reason behind it—and there is a way forward.

💛 When you’ve tried everything… and nothing seems to work.

Grace had spent three years battling stressful mealtimes — trying every tip, every trick, and every bit of advice she could find.
NHS support hadn’t given her the answers she needed, and she was exhausted.

Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh approach, the right guidance, and a clear plan to finally start seeing change.
Together, we uncovered what was really driving her child’s eating struggles — and once we did, things began to shift. ✨

Progress takes time, but Grace’s daughter is now exploring new foods, building confidence, and mealtimes feel calmer for everyone.
Most importantly, Grace finally feels hopeful again. 🌈

If you’ve been feeling stuck, worried, or worn down by constant food battles, please know you don’t have to face it alone.
My 1:1 Sensory Feeding Support can help you understand your child’s challenges, reduce stress, and create calm, confident mealtimes that last. 💕

😩 From mealtime meltdowns… to this 💃💛

If your child is refusing food, squirming at the table, or mealtimes feel like a constant battle… you’re not alone.

I see this every day with the families I support.

But here’s the thing—
it’s not about forcing, bribing, or “just letting them go hungry”…

It’s about understanding why your child is struggling
and having the right strategies to support them 💛

✨ Less pressure
✨ More confidence
✨ Mealtimes that actually feel calmer

That’s the shift I help families make 🙌

🍓 “I don’t want to cook 3 different breakfasts!”
That’s why I love baked oats 👇
✔ Bananas naturally sweeten (no need for lots of sugar) 🍌
✔ Oats, chia & flax = fibre + healthy fats 🌱
✔ Frozen fruit + coconut = colour & flavour 🌈
✔ Oven bake = minimal effort, batch-friendly ⏱

Even if your child only eats the top fruity layer or just the oats, they’re included — and seeing you eat the whole dish builds familiarity 💕.

👩‍🍳 Kids can mash bananas, sprinkle fruit, or scoop their own bowl.
✨ One meal. Different needs. Less stress.

📍Kirsty in the Kitchen Q&A: “My child only takes ONE bite!"
Ever feel like your child takes one tiny bite and then they’re done? 😩
This can be so frustrating, but here’s why it happens and how to help!

✅ What’s normal? Young kids naturally have small appetites and some take longer to warm up to new foods.
✅ Avoid pressure! The more we push, the more they resist. Instead, keep mealtimes relaxed.
✅ Try a reset – serve tiny portions, offer a variety, and let them ask for more.

🎯 Save this reel for next time you’re dealing with the ‘one bite’ struggle!

That line means so much — because feeding challenges aren’t just about food, they’re about how a child experiences food through their senses.

Lace’s child found eating difficult because of sensory sensitivities — certain textures, temperatures and even the sight of food felt overwhelming. Once we uncovered those triggers, she could finally make changes that worked.

Understanding the why behind your child’s eating is what turns stressful mealtimes into calm, connected ones 💛

If you’d like that kind of support for your family, I’d love to help.
