WHITE RIBBON DAY: 25 November 2025 - END Men's Violence Against Women

We prevent violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes of men’s violence against women: harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems around rigid gender norms and harmful expressions of masculinity that perpetuate gender inequality and gender-based violence.

Allyship is a central message of the White Ribbon; it represents men taking responsibility to challenge this issue and being allies, every day, to stop violence against women and girls before it starts.

BCRC have made the White Ribbon NI pledge to never commit, condone or stay silent about violence against women and girls and as an organisation makes a commitment to taking the steps necessary to make our society a safer place for women.

Recently, members of our Ethnic Communities Team visited Stormont and shared the lived experience of some victims of hate crime to the Minister of Justice, Naomi Long.

BCRC, as members of the Racial Equality Subgroup are actively involved in supporting victims of hate crime in our community.

Along with representatives from 9 other organisations we collectively had the opportunity to ask questions from the Minister.

So delighted to have been able to contribute, facilitate and participate in the Rural Community Network Beyond Belfast Conference , 'From the Ground Up' yesterday in the Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy.

Thanks to Rural Community Network for making this collaborative, inspiring event possible. Thanks to Liza from Tides Training for leading us throughout the day in a warm and welcoming way, with gentle reminders of how important relationships and connection is so vital in our peacebuilding efforts.

Special thanks to Carole Kane for holding and sharing an interview with the one and only John Paul Lederach, encouraging us as community practitioners to go to the places no one else will go, respect the gift of conversation and creating space and movement for turning points.

Our CEO facilitated the panel discussion joined by 5 practitioners; The Junction who have been deeply embedded in the everyday work of peacebuilding, navigating challenge and creating connection, not just in theory, but in lived, local realities. The idea of trust being built over time, slowly and consistently, a reminder that peacebuilding is deeply relational work. There were 2 powerful moments of reflection and conversation about the role of creativity and flexibility and the ability to adapt to emerging needs and meeting people where they are. A conversation on inclusion, not just about inviting people in, but changing the structures so we can all belong.

And a warm and rural thanks to Maura Johnston for her wisdom with words, field names, place names, poetry and stories of old.

Loreto College Coleraine were hosts for the second of our Shared Education workshops with Coleraine Grammar School discussing the issue of migration awareness.

We were delighted to be accompanied by members of our Ethnic Communities who shared their experiences with the students. The students had the opportunity to enquire and ask questions about the homeland and personal stories of our invited guests.

Our grateful thanks to Ms Gormley and Loreto College for making us so welcome. Thanks Radius Housing for making these crucial workshops possible.
