Ballynahinch Pilates was set up in April 2009 by a fully certified Pilates Instructor, Nikki Scott. Nikki graduated from the University of Ulster in 2005 with BSc (HONS) Physiotherapy and is currently on a career break from her job within the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust in order to be with her young family. She completed her Pilates certification with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) in early 2009 when she soon later began her own Pilates classes in Edengrove Church, Ballynahinch. Nikki has a real passion for Pilates and thrives on seeing first hand, the difference it can make in a person's life. Evidence based research states that Pilates is believed to aid with relaxation, control of the mind, balance, improved posture, emotional well-being, enhanced strength, flexibility and spinal stability (Latey 2001, Gladwell, Head et al. 2006). It is beneficial for many reasons....
- a refreshing mind-body workout
- develops a strong core
- toned abdominals and a strong back
- improves flexibility
- improves balance
- creates an evenly conditioned body, improves sports performance and prevents injury
- pelvic floor strengthening
- improves posture
- it's gentle... but it's also challenging!! There are currently 9 Pilates classes run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at beginner, intermediate and advanced level in order to cater for each individual's capabilities. With the expanding number of classes, we are delighted to have Rose Williams as a valued member of our team. Rose graduated as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 2004 and is currently working within the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. Rose completed her Pilates certification with APPI in 2008. Nikki and Rose have both completed Ante Natal and Post Natal Pilates training, and Nikki has also completed 'Pilates for Children & Young People' course in February 2016.
