🌊🍦 We’re Back!
Sand Bothy Reopens 4th & 5th April 🍦🌊
We are absolutely delighted to be reopening the Sand Bothy for the season on the first weekend of April (Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th) — and we can’t wait to welcome you all back!
It feels so good to be getting ready to open the kiosk hatch again, the coffee machine on, and of course… officially kicking off ice-cream season 🍦 We’ll once again be serving up delicious Mackie’s ice-cream — because what’s a trip to the beach without one?
Over winter, we haven’t been sitting on our bottoms! The Visitor Centre has had a few wee improvements, with refreshed displays and enhanced interactive elements for children. We hope these updates make visits even more enjoyable for families and curious minds alike.
We’re also thrilled to welcome back our brilliant regular volunteers — and we can’t wait to see our community groups return from their winter break, including:
🧶 Tuesday & Wednesday Crochet Groups
🐉 Dungeons & Dragons Group
🌿 A new monthly Nature Journaling Workshop with RSPB North East Scotland
…and much, much more!
Our programme of family and adult activities is growing, and some events are already appearing on our Ticketsource page — with most tickets going live very soon.

As always, our coordinator Joni will be around at the weekends to say hello and welcome you to the Visitor Centre, alongside our amazing volunteers — including Rosie (BCT Secretary & local historian) and our fantastic kiosk crew. 💙
We’ll also be joined again by the Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs team, led by Fiona, Rachel & Alex. They’ll operate the same weekend opening hours as us, with weekday and out-of-hours bookings available with a little notice.
🕒 Kiosk Opening Times:
Saturday 12–3pm
Sunday 12–4pm
We’re incredibly proud of the fun and meaningful workshops and opportunities we’re bringing to our local community this year — so please keep an eye on our posts as things get busier.
💚 Interested in volunteering?
We’re hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Drive on the last weekend of March (12–4pm both Saturday & Sunday). Pop in for a chat and see how you can play a part in your community. We’ll also be sharing information about our wider Trust groups, including Balmedie Community Sensory Garden, Potterton Volunteers, Balmedie Litter Squad, Balmedie Hub and other local projects.
Finally, a wee reminder that the Sand Bothy is the main source of income for BCT. As your local not-for-profit charity, every penny made goes straight back into supporting our groups, activities, services — and helping other local community organisations where we can.
Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait to see you in April! 🌊💚
