We've all noticed the Back To School signs in some shops already! Don't forget get your child's eye care ticked off the list too 🤓.

If you have any concerns about your child’s eyesight between their screening tests or after Primary 1, contact your local optometrist (optician) to arrange a sight test.

If you wore glasses as a child or have a ‘lazy’ eye, your child is more likely to have the same condition.

If eye problems are not picked up and treated, early vision and learning can suffer.

The earlier a problem is found, the more effectively it can be treated.

If your child requires glasses, we offer stylish frames and with NHS assistance, these are quite often free of charge. The eye examination itself should take around 20 minutes and is covered by the NHS also.

For slightly older children there is the option of contact lenses too.

Cataracts develop when the lens inside your eye, which is typically clear, starts forming cloudy patches. Over time, these patches can grow, leading to blurry or misty vision and, in severe cases, blindness.

It's a bit like a clear glass becoming frosted, limiting our vision. Cataracts can appear in both eyes, though they might not develop simultaneously or to the same extent in each eye.
