Spring Is a Good Time to Check Your Hearing 🌸

Spring is a season of fresh starts, so it’s a great time to check in on your hearing too.

If you’ve noticed the television creeping louder, asking people to repeat themselves more often, or struggling to follow conversations in busy places, it might be time for a hearing check.

Hearing changes often happen gradually, so it’s easy to put them down to background noise or people mumbling. But small signs can make everyday situations like phone calls, social gatherings, or watching TV, more tiring than they should be.

The good news is that checking your hearing is quick, simple, and can give you real peace of mind.

At The Sense of Hearing, we offer FREE hearing checks in a relaxed, friendly environment. Our audiologist, David Peel, will carefully assess your hearing and explain the results so you understand exactly what’s happening.

David can also talk you through the latest hearing technology designed to keep you connected to the people and sounds that matter most.

Call 01295 557008 to book your FREE hearing check and enjoy the season with clearer, more confident hearing.

There isn’t a single cure for tinnitus, but there are effective ways to reduce how much it affects you.

Management options may include:
• Hearing aids to reduce the contrast between tinnitus and everyday sounds
• Sound therapy such as background noise or white noise
• Relaxation and stress-management techniques
• Lifestyle changes such as protecting hearing and improving sleep routines
• Specialist support such as CBT

If tinnitus is starting to affect your day-to-day life, a hearing assessment can help you understand what’s contributing and what support may be right for you.

Tinnitus is commonly linked to hearing loss, but it can also be associated with:
• Exposure to loud noise
• Earwax build-up
• Certain medications
• Ear or head injuries
• Stress or anxiety
• Underlying ear conditions

While tinnitus itself isn’t usually a sign of something serious, it can affect sleep, concentration and overall wellbeing, especially in quiet environments or at night.

If tinnitus is starting to impact daily life, it’s worth getting it checked.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears or head that isn’t caused by an external source.

People often describe it as:
• Ringing
• Buzzing
• Hissing
• Humming
• Roaring

For some, it’s a constant sound. For others, it can come and go, change in pitch, or even sound like it’s in time with their heartbeat (known as pulsatile tinnitus).

No two experiences of tinnitus are the same – which is why understanding your own symptoms is so important.

This week is Tinnitus Awareness Week, and throughout the week we’ll be sharing daily posts to help raise awareness of tinnitus, explain what it is, and explore the support that’s available.

Tinnitus affects around 1 in 7 adults in the UK, yet many people feel unsure where to turn or whether what they’re experiencing is “normal”.

If you or someone close to you experiences ringing, buzzing or other unexplained sounds in the ears, we hope this week’s posts help you feel more informed and reassured.

Follow along this week as we shine a light on tinnitus and how it can be managed.

Hearing loss: the signs to look out for (and what you can do next)

Hearing loss is often seen as “just part of getting older”, but it can creep in gradually, and it isn’t always obvious at first.

You might notice things like:
- Asking people to repeat themselves more often
- Struggling to hear clearly in noisy places such as restaurants
- Turning the TV volume up higher than others prefer
- Feeling like people are “mumbling”
- A blocked or muffled feeling in one or both ears

The good news? Support is available, and getting things checked sooner rather than later can make a real difference to everyday confidence, conversations, and quality of life.

Sometimes it’s something simple too, like a build-up of earwax, and it can often be treated quickly and safely.

If you’re noticing any changes in your hearing, book a hearing check with The Sense of Hearing today — we’re here to help.
