💡A couple of schedule updates:

For Thursday 10:30am Counted Primary Series, we have relocated to Warmington’s charming village hall.

For Saturday morning mysore style classes we now have staggered start times and a new additional room for opening / closing postures. This amendment will combat a recent rise in demand reducing waitlist disappointment. The steady flow of students will mean no one misses out, and more effective space for assistance on our central poses.
Wednesday also has a second start time option of 6:30am.

In recent posts, I’ve mentioned why early morning mysore must be taught from my home shala this year (The fireplace through Winter has proven to be a nice bonus anyway! 🔥)

The rest of the schedule remains the same 🤍

Thank you all for your patience, trust and devotion. My appreciation is beyond words. The honest and unique interactions we share daily far exceed any wordly possession. I remain inspired and humbled.

My deepest gratitude,
Adele

🤍❄️Cheers! ☕️🤍

I’ve naturally been sharing less on social media lately, finding my energy and time is occupied with our yoga community, my practice and, ofcourse, family.
I’ve been overwhelmed with the support and devotion of the Ashtanga Yoga Banbury community lately.
The attendance over the festive period really blew me away, and even this first week of January on the icy roads; you continue to show up for practice at all hours! It is very inspiring.

This year you may have noticed I’m not offering as many trips or hosting teachers.
This was a conscious decision. I cannot travel this year as my husband is away a lot. Therefore, I need to be home to tend to family, and other community roles.

I have the gracious support of extended family to keep a yoga schedule running six days a week. For that I am eternally grateful.

Last year we had some really fun trips and experiences. I met and made some incredible new friendships, I reconnected with some wonderful teachers, and new shalas.
It has been tough, to say the least, to turn down repeat invites and new classes, but this practice is not going anywhere.
While travel is a luxury, I also recognise that home is also a luxury, a sanctuary.

I am honoured to be able to share that sanctuary with other keen practitioners. And I look forward to a year of yoga studies, nurturing my family and community.

With that said, I seem to struggle with containing my excitement and ideas 😂 so please watch this space for upcoming local workshops 😊
Future retreats and collaborations too, but these will likely be later in the year or next year.

If you’d like to be part of my mailing list or WhatsApp group please feel free to DM. This is where I tend to communicate mostly.

Be safe and find beauty in the small things.

On describing Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing without retention), Gregor Maehle details the Lunar and Solar elements found in each round.
During Ujjayi breathing we internalise the mantra of OM 🕉️
but during Nadi Shuddhi this is different.
Here we pronounce two syllables;
1. Vam (water) 💧
2. Ram (fire) 🔥

Gregor writes (so poetically) :

“🌙The lunar cycle consists of an inhalation through the left nostril and an exhalation through the right nostril. During that time, pronounce the bija akshara (seed syllable) ‘Vam’

🌞The solar cycle constitutes an inhalation through the right nostril and an exhalation through the left. During that time pronounce the bija akshara ‘Ram’

The location into which we pronounce the mantra is also of importance.

🌙💧Intonate the syllable of water in the centre of the skull, the larger area of the third ventricle of the brain. This area in yogic parlance is called ‘the moon’, as it constitutes the lunar, life-giving, anabolic, nurturing reservoir of prana called amrita. While we pronounce Vam in this area, we visualize this centre as the disc of the full moon, shining like an ocean of liquid silver, with a cooling, nectar-like quality.

🌞🔥During the solar cycle we pronounce Ram in the circle of fire, i.e. the Manipura Chakra. The Manipura is called the circle of fire because it is the seat of agni, the element of fire.
Each chakra is a representation of a particular element and it carries that element within itself.
The Manipura (navel chakra) represents the element fire, in the body most notable as the digestive fire. Each chakra also has a seed syllable (bija aksharas) associated with it, which again represents the element. The bija mantra of the navel chakra is the syllable of fire, which is Ram.
Strike the mantra Ram into the circle of fire, which you visualize at the navel or, precisely speaking, the point behind the navel where a projected horizontal line emanating from the navel would meet the spinal cord.
This is the location of the Manipura Chakra”
