“Go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” Kurt Vonnegut

"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right."

~Søren Kierkegaard

Quick stress fixers

2) Pause

I use this word mentally a lot if I find myself feeling overwhelmed.

Just take a deep breathe and then mentally note all the things that have gone well in recent days.

Doesn’t have to be big things. Remember that lovely message from a friend, great cup of coffee, the day off you’ve booked and where you’ll go…focus for a few moment and go with what comes up.

And Smile.

Just the very act of smiling can increase mood-enhancing hormones while decreasing stress-enhancing hormones, including cortisol.

Quick stress fixers

1) Physiological Sigh
This well researched technique is a quick and effective way to calm the nervous system.

Take a deep breath in through your nose. Without exhaling that breath, take a second shorter breath in to fully expand the lungs.
Then slowly breathe out through the mouth to fully empty your lungs.

It can quickly ease and calm in anxious moments.
