LEE & CLAIRE DRAY ANNOUNCEMENT
After over 30 years in Optics for myself and approaching 25 years for Claire, we are today announcing that we are retiring from Dray’s Eyecare and looking forward to spending more time with our family and pursuing new adventures. We have both thoroughly enjoyed our 20 years in Banbury on Chatsworth Drive after starting the business from scratch and nurturing it to become the well-respected practice that it is today. Obviously, we have very mixed emotions about this hard decision, but feel now is the right time to pass the baton to younger, more ambitious owners, to enable the practice to flourish further and reach its potential.

We took a long time to find the right people to take over the reins, and we believe the new owners are the right fit for Dray’s Eyecare, our community and our loyal patients. The new owners are also an independent family team, who bring a huge amount of experience and energy into Dray’s Eyecare and hold the same beliefs as myself and Claire in how customers, clients and patients should be cared for.

We are delighted that Rachel, Nina, Lesley and Warren will remain at Dray’s Eyecare, so a familiar and friendly face is always assured. I will also remain at Dray’s Eyecare for a period, but in a more reserved role, to ensure the smooth transition to the new owners.

In addition to continuing the Dray’s Eyecare legacy, the new owners are also keen to introduce new services for you to utilise, the first of which will be an audiology clinic, so not only can Dray’s look after your sight, it will shortly be in a position to look after your hearing too.

Myself and Claire would like to thank each and every one of you for you continued support and friendship over the last twenty years, it truly has meant a great deal to us both. It has been our absolute pleasure to have served you over all these years and we wish you the very best for the future.

As a family-run, independent team ourselves, we share their passion for delivering honest, personal and expert care. We’re committed to maintaining the friendly, patient-focused ethos you’ve come to know and trust.

You’ll continue to see the same fantastic team - Rachel, Nina, Lesley and Warren - and Lee will remain involved for a while to help ensure a smooth and familiar handover.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to introduce a few new services, including hearing care and OCT scans as part of ongoing clinical upgrades, as well as fresh new eyewear brands to expand your choice.

We can’t wait to meet you and continue the legacy of care, professionalism and independence that Dray’s Eyecare represents.

Planned Maintenance at Dray’s Eyecare

The practice will be closed on Monday 9th June for essential maintenance and improvement work. The practice will re-open as normal on Tuesday 10th June. There will be further remedial work carried out on Thursday 12th June, which may impact our operations but, we will remain open on this day as normal.

On this day, 23rd May 2005, at 9.00am Claire & myself opened our doors on Chatsworth Drive for the very first time as Spectacles Direct. It was a very busy time for us, having just completed the shop fit from scratch with the help of our Dads, whilst still working full-time & only 21 days before this day, having our second child. It was a dream of ours to have our own business & we wanted it to be right in the heart of our Banbury community. In 2012, we evolved the practice into Dray’s Eyecare, becoming north Oxfordshire’s Zeiss lens specialist, the practice that you know us as today.

As the business has grown & evolved, we have over the last twenty years helped in excess of seven thousand people, many of who have become regulars & friends. It’s has had its ups and downs, as all businesses have, especially coming though the financial crashes & Covid times, but we made it through.

We have been blessed with some really hard working & dedicated staff over this time. There really are too many to mention each person individually but, we would particularly like to mention Danny the specialist Optometrist, who is always there for support when we need him. Finally, our regular Optometrist Nina, who has been on this journey with us, almost from day one & as well as being one of the finest Optometrists it has been our pleasure to work with, has been a truly amazing friend & helped our business grow to what it is today.

Finally, & most importantly, we would like to thank you, our patients & friends, wow, you have all been amazing. Year after year you have trusted us with your eye care, your vision & eye health, I cannot tell you how honoured we are that you continue to do so. Without you, we have no business, so please accept this thanks personally from myself, Claire & the rest of the Dray’s Eyecare family.

This morning, 23rd May, you are welcome to pop in, say hello, have a bit of cake or chocolate, maybe even a glass of bubbles (it’s non-alcoholic, we’re still working!) I’ll be here until lunch-time, it would be good to see you. We’re not doing anything too elaborate, but you know, twenty years is pretty good going, so thought we should mark the occasion.

So, here we go, another year for us to all look forward to and this year means a big, big birthday for Dray's Eyecare. Can you believe that this is our 20th year, here on Chatsworth Drive. It really doesn't seem that long ago we opened our doors for the very first day, but thanks to all of you guys, we are still here all this time later. There's going to be some really positive changes over the coming months, that we will keep you all updated with, it's going to be an exciting year. Happy new year to you all and a massive thank you as always from Lee, Claire and the whole Dray's Eyecare team.

Hello all, well it's been a while! You've all been keeping us so, so busy, that the time has come for us to have a little break. With this in mind we are slightly reducing our hours throughout August so that we can recharge our batteries. Take a look at the image so you all know when we are opening and closing. So, on 23rd May 2005, we opened our doors for the first time as Spectacles Direct, not knowing whether we would succeed in this venture or not. So much has changed in those nineteen years and we have grown into the established eyewear and eye care company that we all know today as Drays Eyecare.

As we move into our 20th year, we thank our lucky stars that so many of you have supported us, through having your eye tests with us, buying glasses or even just popping in for a chat, it really has been a privilege to be here for you. Myself and Claire would like to thank each and every one of you for being part of the Drays Eyecare family.

Dray’s Eyecare

We opened our practice on 23rd May 2005, with just myself and my wife Claire at the helm, we are Banbury’s only husband and wife owned, independent practice. Since then we have grown and evolved into Banbury’s premier eye care centre, providing ophthalmic medical services for the NHS as well as eye examinations and emergency care. We are well known in the area as the “go to practice” for people with difficult prescriptions or poor eye sight. If you’ve got a problem, we’d love to help and if there is a solution we can provide it. All our glasses are still made on site by myself, Lee, a qualified optical technician.
