Like hepatitis A, typhoid fever is a food- and waterborne disease. It causes digestive problems such as diarrhoea or constipation, stomach pain and a high fever. The typhoid vaccination is recommended for all travellers visiting Sri Lanka, where outbreaks continue to occur. In addition to getting vaccinated you should take care in choosing where you eat and practise good food hygiene while abroad.

Japanese encephalitis is a viral disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes. The virus is found in pigs and birds, however if is spread to humans through mosquito bites. It can’t be passed from one person to another. Most people will have mild or no symptoms however the virus can cause severe symptoms and lead to serious long term complications.

About the vaccine
When to get vaccinated: You need to get the first dose ideally five weeks before you travel in order to be able to complete the course in time.

Course: The course consists of two doses. The second dose needs to be given ideally 28 days after the first. You are protected from seven days after the second dose.

The HPV vaccine protects against several strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer in women, a**l and pe**le cancer in men, and ge***al warts in both sexes.

We offer the cholera vaccination in store.

The cholera vaccination is given orally and usually involves two doses, which need to be taken a minimum of 7 days apart. In order to be protected abroad, you need to finish the course at least one week before travelling.

We are also offering Mounjaro now.

Mounjaro is a weekly injectable weight loss treatment, containing the active ingredient tirzepatide.
It works by mimicking 2 hormones to make you feel fuller from less food. Combined with a healthy diet and exercise, this can lead to you losing up to 22.5% of your starting weight (after 72 weeks of treatment on a maintenance dose of 15mg).

The Superdrug Weight Loss service is provided through our specially trained Health Clinics teams.
This new service is led by trained nurses and pharmacists who provide personalised support and guidance to patients wishing to start their weight loss journey with face-to-face support.
The service includes an initial consultation, where the nurse will take your measurements, BMI and blood pressure, and will take the time to discuss your weight loss goals and medical history with you. As part of the service, if suitable, we offer the weight loss medication, Mounjaro.
