🎧 Using music to regulate, ground and connect 🎧

Music can be a powerful tool for emotional regulation — helping to calm the nervous system, shift perspective, and make difficult feelings more accessible and manageable.

Our Therapeutic Music Workshop is for anyone curious about using sound, rhythm and creativity to support wellbeing in a safe, supportive environment.

✨ No musical background required
✨ No pressure to “perform”
✨ Just space to explore, reflect and connect

Led by an experienced therapist with a music degree and extensive workshop experience, this session offers a warm, welcoming environment where music becomes a bridge to emotional awareness and connection.

Do you struggle with insomnia? Are you not able to stop your mind from going round in circles at night?
Here are some useful tips to try:
1. Keep a notepad and pen beside your bed: If you remember something you have to do the next day, write it down and get it out of your head. Similarly, if you are worried about something you cannot control, release it onto paper and allow your brain to let it go.
2. Box breathing: Let your body tell your brain to relax by trying this breathing technique. It is quite simple…breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds and finally hold for 4 seconds. Focus on the counting and the rhythm and allow your mind to relax.
3. Take care of your night time routine: Try to not eat too close to bedtime, keep your bedroom cool and with dimmed lighting, avoid all screens at least an hour before bed and even try something like an Epsom salt bath or camomile tea to relax.
Sleep matters. Take some control back and reach out for support if you are struggling.

Most of us know the power of walking but in these dark January days, it can be hard to persuade yourself to get out the door. Walking gives you space to reflect on your day, calm your stress levels, regulate your sleep and clear your head.
When on a walk the other day I took this photo as I started to pay attention to the colours and beauty all around me, even though January makes me want to hibernate.
Even if it is just for a short walk, I encourage you to leave aside the excuses and remind yourself how powerful a walk can be for your mental health.

💬 Client feedback like this truly reminds us why we do what we do 💛

Receiving feedback is incredibly rewarding for our team, and we’re grateful to be trusted with people’s stories during such vulnerable moments.

Recent feedback from a client:

“I came to Insula at a time when I needed support. Through one-to-one sessions, I was supported to explore the difficulties I was facing. Every session I felt listened to and respected.

Coming into therapy can be a difficult decision — you may feel vulnerable or anxious about sharing your journey with someone you don’t know. I am so pleased I took that step and will be forever grateful.”

If you’re considering reaching out and wondering whether therapy is right for you, we’d be glad to support you too 🤍

Today is National Hug Day — a gentle reminder of just how powerful a hug can be 🤍

Hugs help reduce stress, boost our mood and increase feelings of connection by releasing oxytocin, helping us feel safe and supported. Sometimes, when we’re lonely or struggling, a hug can say more than words ever could.

And if hugs aren’t your thing, that’s okay too. A kind word, a supportive message, or simply asking someone how they are can feel just as comforting. Even giving yourself a hug on a tough day can make a difference.
