Unfortunately price hikes likely ahead in every industry 😔

Our MPs need to do something more to support local businesses.

Tough times.

🥺 We wanted to be honest with our local community…

Following the recent business rates revaluation, The Ava’s rates have increased by 79%, rising from £39,500 to £70,800 — an extra £31,300 per year.

Like many independent venues in Bangor, we’re also facing higher energy costs, rising wages, increased National Insurance, and commercial waste costs of around £12,000 annually.

We’ve absorbed as much of this as possible and will continue to keep any price changes to an absolute minimum — because we believe great food, cocktails and atmosphere should still be accessible locally.

We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from our Bangor customers. Your nights out genuinely keep local hospitality alive.

⚡️ It wasn’t pretty 🏃‍♀️ ⚡️

I flared up a meniscal tear in my knee when running a few months ago. Today was the first run since.

Points to remember when returning from injury.

1️⃣ Gradual Load Progression.

Even if it feels good (like it did today), don’t be tempted to do more or go further. Stick to your plan.

2️⃣ It’s not all about the running.

Strength and flexibility are key to remaining injury free. This can’t be ignored. Personally, I’ve been working on core strength and single leg strength.

3️⃣ Sleep.

Yes, sleep. There is a strong link between poor sleep and increased injury risk.

4️⃣ Nutrition.

It’s not all about the calories but the diversity of nutrition that those calories give. I am terrible at remembering to eat. Spent Sunday planning balanced meals for the week ahead.

Remember pain is not normal and if any pain persists definitely get it checked by your local health care professional.
