🏴Celebrating St David’s Day at our North Wales Care Homes

Residents at Eryl Fryn Care Home, Ceris Newydd & Glyn Menai in North Wales celebrated St David’s Day, a tradition that means so much to many of the people living in our care.

At Eryl Fryn Care Home, residents spent the morning creating colourful St David’s Day crafts and welcomed a special visitor dressed in traditional Welsh costume.

Residents at Ceris Newydd Care Home and Glen Menai Care Home celebrated with themed activities, Welsh Tea, and treats.

Moments like these are an important part of life in our residential, nursing, and dementia care homes, helping residents stay connected with local culture, traditions and meaningful shared experiences.

Today we would like to shine a spotlight on Phillip, who has been a valued part of the Eryl Fryn Care Home family in Llandudno, Conwy since 2007. 💙

Phillip’s journey at our home is truly inspiring. He first joined the team in a domestic role, before progressing to Kitchen Assistant, and becoming our talented chef.

His career growth is a wonderful reflection of his hard work, dedication and commitment to both the team and our residents.

🧑‍🍳 Phillip is well known for his kind and polite nature, as well as the pride he takes in preparing meals. He always goes the extra mile to meet our residents’ dietary needs, often preparing their favourite dishes to ensure everyone feels cared for and supported.

Food plays an important role in daily life at Eryl Fryn Care Home, and Phillip’s thoughtful approach helps make every meal enjoyable for our residents.

MEET KATHLEEN
✈️ A life full of adventure
Originally from West Yorkshire, Kathleen has always had a wonderful zest for life and a love for travelling. Over the years, she explored many beautiful places and created memories that she still treasures today. One of her most memorable experiences was travelling to Venice on the Orient Express with a friend.

🌎 A favourite destination
Of all the places she has visited, the USA holds a special place in Kathleen’s heart and remains her favourite destination.

🎶 A love for music and film
Kathleen enjoys music and especially loves watching the classic film The Sound of Music, which always brings a smile to her face.

🧶 Creative hobbies
She once had a passion for knitting and spent many hours creating beautiful pieces — something she looks back on fondly today.

🏉 Sports enthusiast
Kathleen is also a keen sports fan and enjoys watching rugby and snooker. Everyone at the home is excited as Eryl Fryn will soon welcome a special visit from a famous snooker player.

💛 A valued member of our community
Kathleen embraces life in the home and always makes an effort to take part in activities and events. She especially enjoys days out and social gatherings with fellow residents. Her lively personality and enthusiasm make her a much-loved member of the Eryl Fryn family.

Located in the heart of Colwyn Bay, Merton Place Care Home provides high-quality nursing and residential care in a warm, welcoming environment. Love, laughter and the sweetest moments filled our North Wales care homes 💕✨

Last week, at Eryl Fryn in Conwy and Ceris Newydd & Glyn Menai in Bangor, Valentine’s celebrations were all about companionship, creativity and the joy of everyday life in a care home.

Residents enjoyed decorating gingerbread love-heart biscuits 🍪, creating handmade cards 💌 and painting beautiful artwork 🎨 meaningful activities that support wellbeing, connection and person-centred care.

At Ceris Newydd and Glyn Menai, a special couples’ afternoon 🥂 with champagne and Valentine’s cake brought smiles, memories and plenty of heartfelt moments. It was a lovely reminder that love and friendship continue to grow at every stage of life ❤️

A Place to Connect at Ty Cariad Cafe☕

At Ty Cariad Dementia Care Centre in Abergele, North Wales, the initiative of Ty Cariad Cafe has become a central part of life within the care home.

This space provides a comfortable, relaxed, and safe environment for our residents to socialise, enjoy live music and participate in meaningful conversation accompanied by their families. This initiative restores a sense of normality and reduces the institutional feel often associated with care settings.

Due to its success and increasing attendance, the café is expanding from twice weekly to daily opening in 2026. This initiative has already made a real difference by reducing loneliness and isolation for residents and relatives while strengthening relationships with the local community.

National Kite Day 🪁

Recently, at Eryl Fryn, residents celebrated National Kite Day with creativity, colour, and wonderful memories.

🎨 Residents spent the morning designing and making their kites. These craft activities are designed to encourage creativity, hand-eye coordination, and socialising with each other.

🏠 While the weather wasn’t perfect for flying them outdoors, the kites looked beautiful on the window display.

This activity sparked nostalgic memories of seaside holidays and childhood fun, sparking some conversation.

A Season of Giving 🎄

This Christmas season, we were overwhelmed by the kindness shown across our festive posts.

Every like, share, and message of support helped us raise £228, donated to support Age UK and Dementia UK, helping to support older people and those living with dementia.

At Fairways, we believe that connection, kindness, and community spirit make all the difference, and we are happy to play a part in supporting causes that support our seniors.
