Over the past 4 years, Bangor Eats have been working tirelessly to support and promote a wide range of local independently owned businesses across Bangor and beyond. We offer our services at a fraction of the cost when compared to big app like Just Eat etc., and are currently partnered with over 80 brilliant local businesses on our app and website - but the support we provide is only a small part of what these businesses need - the other part is you. 🫵
Never has 'Use it or lose it' ever seemed so appropriate. It almost seems like everyday we are reading about another local business closing down for the final time - two of note recently being Rough Stuff (after over 30 years) and The Singing Kettle Bakery (after 18 years). We didn't work directly with either of these businesses, but we will miss them both.
It got us thinking about how many food/takeaway businesses we have lost over the past couple of years. This is by no means and exhaustive list, and there are a variety of reasons why these businesses decided to close, but the bottom line is, they are now gone:
- 19 Coffee House
- Apache Pizza
- Bami & Pho
- Bangor Bites
- Bawon
- Cafe B
- Cafe Havana
- Chick n' Pizza
- Daintys
- Dolce Vita Pizza
- East Coast Diner
- El Keto Burrito
- Food Pod Six
- The Galley
- Get Stuff'd
- Gone Grillin'
- Greedy Gorb
- Grill'd
- Grub at the Club
- Hole in the Hedge Café
- In the Name of Cod
- Katch 22
- Manhattan Milkshakes
- Marina Coffee
- Marerosa
- Nays Kitchen
- Neko Asian
- Phoenix Chinese
- Pizza Worx
- Salt House
- Scotch Corner Café
- Shirley & Ted's
- Sole Food
- StkdBrgr
- Sweet C's
- Taste Grill
- Thindi Indian
- Velvet Rose
- Villa Oregano
- Vujon Indian
And that's only the ones we can think of. At this rate we'll soon become a city of national chain stores only. No doubt there will be a long queue of cars this weekend outside KFC and McDonald's, etc. but at what cost?
While it's good news that Queen's Parade has finally begun, the construction works and removal of car parking has already led to a dramatic decline in already poor City centre footfall - piling more pressure on businesses located there.
Maybe as we enter what will hopefully be a busy festive season, more of you will explore more, try somewhere new, and most importantly, support local business. If you do, then we'd also urge you to either order directly with the outlet, or if you prefer, use Bangor Eats. You will pay less, the outlet will make more, and 100% of your money stays local. 🤝
