Other duties involve fixing minor problems within the home. Experience preferred but not essential. Hours 37.5 Salary £12.75 per hour. Job Description
Job Title: Handyperson
Reporting to: Home Manager
Job purpose: To carry out day to day maintenance on the fabric o the building, its services and grounds in order to ensure that the Care Centre is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Required:
• General maintenance knowledge/experience e.g. minor electrical, plumbing, joinery
• Good communication skills
• Confident team player
• Clean driving licence
• Use of car or similar vehicle
• Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/Fire/EHO issues
• Satisfactory Policy Check and check against the PoVA list
• Ability to work on own initiative
Desired:
• Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems
• Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations
Main Responsibilities
General Maintenance
• Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager, who will advise accordingly
• Ensure the maintenance of the Care Centre’s exterior, including:
o Keep any sheds, outbuildings and areas in which waste is stored in a clean and tidy condition
o Clear snow and grit the drive, paths and any areas to which Service Users, Visitors or Staff Members have access
o Where applicable; cut the grass around the building and tend to any flowerbeds, hanging baskets etc
o Clean all signs/lighting outside the Care Centre
• Carry out any patching up or touching up of decoration as and when required in order to maintain standard of Care Centre
• Test the fire alarm system, and log results, weekly. Check call points, fire exits, door retaining devices and fire emergency lights, as specified in Company procedures
• Ensure all ventilation units and lights are kept clean. Replace any defective light bulbs/diffusers
• Test all portable appliance as specified in Company procedures

• Test and record water temperatures as specified in company procedures
• Maintain a ‘Maintenance Book’ in which defects are recorded by Staff Members. Use this book to effect repairs/replacements daily
• Assist/supervise with deliveries to the Care Centre. Monitor delivered goods closely
Communication
• Participate in Staff and Service User meetings as required
• Complete all relevant documentation
• Liaise with Home Manager or delegated Staff Member regarding maintenance work to be carried out
Budgetary/Financial Control
• Ensure that all commodities used in and around the Care Centre are sensibly conserved by all Staff Members
Training and Development
• Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
• Attend mandatory training days/course, on or off site as and when required
Health & Safety
• Adhere to the Care Centres disposal of waste policy
• Ensure that paints and varnishes are used and stored only in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
• Ensure areas in which any painting/varnishing work is being done is well ventilated and safe for Service Users, Visitors and Staff Members
• Report immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self or another
• Understand, and ensure the implementation of the Care Centres Health & Safety policy and Emergency and Fire procedures
• Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre
General
• An employee needs to understand their safeguarding responsibilities, develop their understanding and skills to reduce the risk of abuse or neglect to adults who need care and support, and safeguard adults in a way that recognises their choice and control
• Ensure that all existing stocks are maintained in a safe and tidy environment and reorder as and when required
• Inform the Home Manager or Person in Charge of any visit to Care Centre by external maintenance staff. Record the visit in appropriate manner.
• Undertake driving duties if required by Home Manager or Person in Charge limiting trips to necessary mileage only i.e. frequent visits to GP should be reduced by planning
• Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties
• Notify the Home Manager or Person in Charge as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absence
• Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Centre and The Company
• Ensure the security of the Care Centre is maintained at all times
• Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales

• Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
• Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
Emergencies:
• Be ‘On Call’ for advice/action in any emergencies which may arise out of hours
• Where a ‘fault’ cannot be rectified, provide details of the fault to the Home Manag

As a Registered Nurse (RGN), you’ll have the autonomy to do things the right way – and be truly valued and respected for what you do.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll need to have current NMC registration and a good knowledge of the most up-to-date clinical practices to join us as a Registered Nurse (RGN). Experience of producing well-developed care plans and detailed risk assessments is important too, as is an understanding of regulatory frameworks, including DoLs/MCA and Royal Pharmaceutical guidelines. Dedicated and compassionate, you’ll pride yourself on your person-centered, thoughtful approach to nursing.

As a night care assistant at Bargoed Care Home, every day will be different, so you can expect to undertake work that is as varied as it is rewarding.
