Compression creates slight pressure over the skin, and in the lipoedema tissues. This improves the movement of blood up the leg veins. It also stops extra fluid leaking into the tissues from the blood and reduces inflammation in the area. Compression supports the lymphatics, which can reduce oedema. It may not have a direct effect on the lipoedema fat. Worn regularly will help to reduce symptoms of heavy limbs, pain and inflammation.

Some Symptoms of Lipoedema:
💜Symmetrical fat accumulation: Usually affects both legs and sometimes arms but spares the hands and feet.
💜Pain and tenderness: Affected areas can be painful, even with light pressure.
💜Easy bruising: bruising can appear over the affected areas.
💜Diet-resistant fat: Weight loss efforts does not reduce lipoedema fat.
💜Cuffing can appear at the ankles or wrists: A clear distinction between affected and unaffected areas.

It’s important to note that not every person with lipoedema will experience every symptom.

We work hard to raise awareness of lipoedema as often it can be misdiagnosed as obesity or lymphoedema. It is frustrating that so many medical professionals are not clued up on lipoedema. We will continue our fight to have lipoedema recognised all over the world!

Why is MLD so important? 💙

Well, not only does it help reduce swelling, aid the healing process and reduce pain, it also reduces the risk of fibrosis.

While the fibrosis risk is rare (around 2% of liposuction cases might have it) it is something we always want to avoid.
