If you’re choosing a beauty or aesthetic course, the type of qualification matters as much as the treatment you want to learn.
Here’s a simple way to compare VTCT-accredited vs unregulated courses:
1) Recognition
- VTCT:Nationally recognised awarding organisation qualification.
- Unregulated:Certificate of attendance. Not nationally recognised.
2) Standards & assessment
- VTCT:Set learning outcomes, structured assessments, quality assurance.
- Unregulated:Quality varies. Assessment may be minimal or inconsistent.
3) Progression
- VTCT:Clear progression routes for further study and career development.
- Unregulated:Progression depends on the provider and may not be accepted elsewhere.
4) Insurance & credibility
- VTCT:Often easier to evidence competence to insurers and employers.
- Unregulated: You may need extra proof of training. Always check insurance requirements before enrolling.
5) Who it’s best for
- VTCT:Learners who want a recognised pathway and strong foundations.
- Unregulated:Can be useful for niche add-ons only e provider is reputable and you’ve checked requirements.
My advice:decide your end goal first (clinic work, employability, long-term progression), then choose the qualification that supports it.
