🌍 World Mental Health Day — From One Woman to Another

Today is World Mental Health Day — and mental health doesn’t always look the way people imagine it does.

Sometimes it’s not the big breakdown moments we see in films or the brave social media posts. Sometimes it’s quieter — like the woman who gets up early, sorts everyone else out, goes to work, smiles, and gets through the day while holding a knot of worry in her chest that never really goes away.

The exhaustion from pretending you’re fine when you’re really just trying to keep all the plates spinning. It’s feeling anxious before the day even begins, but showing up anyway.

If that sounds familiar, please know you’re not weak, broken, or failing. You’re human — and you’ve probably been running on empty for far too long.

💚 A few gentle things that really can help:
• Start your day slowly. Before you reach for your phone, take one deep breath and notice three things around you.
• Get outside, even for five minutes. Fresh air and natural light can help regulate your mood and your nervous system.
• Drink water and eat something grounding. It sounds simple, but your body needs fuel to feel safe.
• Reach out to someone who gets it. A message, a walk, a chat — you don’t have to do this alone.
• Rest without guilt. You’re allowed to pause. You don’t need to earn it.

And if those small things don’t feel like enough right now, that’s okay too. Sometimes, your body and mind need a deeper reset — and that’s exactly what I help women with.

Through calming, practical sessions (no endless talking, no need to relive the past), we work together to release the tension that’s been stuck for too long and help you feel safe in your body again.

You wake up and it’s already there — that knot in your stomach, the racing mind, the wave of unease before the day even begins.

Morning anxiety can feel like you’ve run a marathon in your sleep. Your heart’s beating faster, your tummy feels off, and your brain’s already ten steps ahead — replaying yesterday or worrying about what’s next.

You haven’t done anything wrong. Your body’s simply waking up in protection mode. Cortisol (your natural stress hormone) peaks in the morning to get you moving — but if your nervous system’s already on edge, that surge can tip you into overdrive.

It’s not that you “can’t cope with mornings”… it’s that your system forgot what calm feels like.

💚 A few gentle things that can help:
• Sit up slowly and take one deep breath before you even reach for your phone.
• Ground yourself — notice three things you can see and one you can feel.
• Sip something warm, give your body time to catch up with your mind.

You know that moment your stomach flips, your chest feels tight, and your breath goes shallow?

That’s your body’s stress response — a normal, automatic reaction designed to keep you safe.
Common physical shifts can include a faster heartbeat, shallow breathing, wobbly legs, churning tummy or nausea, and a sense of pressure in the chest or throat. It feels intense, but it’s your nervous system doing its job a bit too well.

When that alarm is blaring, thinking clearly gets harder — which is why “just relax” rarely helps. First, we help your body register safety (slower, deeper breathing, gentle grounding, tapping), then your mind can follow. Thought work does help — it simply lands better once the body is calmer.

In my 1:1 sessions we use practical, ‘not-talky’ techniques to reduce the false alarms and build a steadier baseline, so everyday things feel doable again.

Spain was exactly what I needed — sunshine, laughter, and a reminder that joy really is medicine. I had a few days away celebrating my best friend’s 50th with an amazing group of women — the late-night chats, belly laughs, and moments of pure connection were everything.

Now I’m back at Serene Mind Solutions, bringing that same warm, feel-good energy into my sessions this week. I’m genuinely excited to be back, ready to dive into sessions again, I love what I do.

When the Sunday Scaries Start to Creep In…

You know that feeling — the pit in your stomach as the weekend fades and your mind starts racing through everything waiting for you next week.
The Sunday scaries can sneak in even when life’s “fine” on paper. It’s that mix of worry, restlessness and “I just don’t want to do this again.”

If this sounds familiar, here are three gentle things that can help:

Smiling tricks your brain into feeling happier – even if it’s a fake one.

It’s true – your body and mind are deeply connected, and just lifting the corners of your mouth can release those feel-good chemicals. Think of it as the quickest reset you’ve always got with you.

So on World Smile Day, why not try it out? Share a smile in unexpected places – at the barista, the neighbour you pass on your walk, or even just in the mirror before you head out the door.

Those tiny moments don’t just lift you… they create ripples, and you never know whose day you might change with something so simple.

Yep, the one that pops up out of nowhere when you're just trying to get on with your day.
