💫 Wear SPF every single day! 💫
With the April heatwave fast approaching in the UK, it’s more important than ever that we talk about sun protection! Although sun exposure gives you your daily dose of vitamin D, there are important risks to know about.
Put simply, there are two types of UV rays from sunlight which can have the following effects on us:
UVA- causes ageing, wrinkling and loss of elasticity 👵🏼
UVB- increases your risk of skin cancer ☀️
To protect against these, the NHS recommends that you use a daily sunscreen with:
🌞 A sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 to protect against UVB
🌞 At least 4-star UVA protection
As a guide, adults should aim to apply around:
🥄 2 teaspoons of sunscreen if you're just covering your head, arms and neck
🥄 2 tablespoons if you're covering your entire body while wearing a swimming costume
You should apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out, and remember to reapply regularly! Particularly when swimming 🏊
As well as using a daily SPF, to best protect yourself, you should also:
🏖 Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm during peak sunlight hours
🕶 Cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses
❌ Avoid sunbeds and sun lamps
🚩 Check your skin and speak to your doctor about new moles, growths or lumps- particularly if they are changing in size, shape or colour
Enjoy the sun safely everyone!☀️
