If a glute feels or looks more contracted and you notice an imbalance, it can be due to posture or compensation and is an indication of the mind and body being out of alignment with the signals from the brain being interrupted and misfired. Stress causes our breathing to become shallow and chest based, which causes the diaphragm to get stuck up under our rib cage and in turn shuts down the hip flexors which shuts down their reciprocal muscles the glutes, and when the glutes shut down, there is a knock on effect through the entire kinetic chain. In BeActivated neuromuscular therapy, we start with the breath and release the diaphragm to create space- inviting the nervous system to settle into parasympathetic safety. The psoas (hip flexors), often held in vigilance, safely releases its protective tension. Then activating the glutes reestablishes postural stability and a felt sense of grounding- completing a full cycle from release to reconnection. We gain a sense of physical confidence and stability, strength and alignment through the kinetic chain. This sequence allows the body to move from contraction and defence toward openness and embodied safety. When the body feels safe, the brain can follow.
