We here at Elite Care and Comfort are delighted to be one of the Top 20 Homecare providers in Yorkshire and the Humber, we are a small family run business who have dedicated our lives to ensure that the independence, privacy, and dignity of each person that we care for is maximized to their full potential.
As a team we have decided to dedicate this award to a very special person, a Mr Brian Marsden, Brian was one of our very first service users, Brian was a strong, determined and extremely caring person who always went out of his to help us in any way that he could even though he was battling his own health issues. He was warm, friendly, loving and a credit to himself. He was a huge part of Elite care and comfort, and he was truly loved by all, and especially his family who together have given their permission for us to share his story, written in his amazing partner Angela’s words, who is also a true inspiration.
I hope you can all read Brian’s story and be inspired, as he was a true inspiration to us all.
"I met Brian 31 years ago, from which life was busy, shop, home, allotment, holidays, and PUB in Brian’s case! Two grandchildren came and Brian was over the moon! Life at this present time was rosy.
However, in 2020 Brian was diagnosed with Cancer, a nasty melanoma which has spread. In January 2021, Brian underwent an operation to remove his lymph nodes under his arm and was discharged from hospital, following his discharge he still didn’t seem himself, on the 6th may (Brian’s Birthday) he was rushed into hospital as the cancer had then spread to his spine, he had spinal compression surgery and was again discharged and again he was not himself and his back started to swell, he was rushed to hospital again and a further operation was carried out, he had a blood clot and a screw removed which was from the previous operation, following this Brian was then unable to walk and he became bound to his bed. Luckily for us, we were allocated a Care Package for carers to come and help me look after Brian, this is when we encountered Elite Care and Comfort.
We met Ingrid and Aimee first, Brian took to them both straight away and was really comfortable with them. They attended his every need which he found very embarrassing to start with, but over time they put Brian at ease and got into a routine.
Time went on and Brian then got attached to Ticha, he likes to talk to him about cars and motorbikes, Man Talk! Brian began to improve, and things got better, he started to walk a few steps and eventually could walk using his Zimmer frame, nothing was too much for his carers, they provided help and encouragement and always had time for Brian and went the extra mile. Brian likes getting Ticha into trouble and giving Aimee some stick! They even welcomed us to their Christmas outing, Brian could not wait, it was the first time he had been out of the house in nearly a year, he felt safe and secure knowing if anything happened, they were there for him, he had a really good time.
Unfortunately, in April, Brian took a turn for the worst, I was in tatters, and rang Ingrid for help. Aimee and Ticha came straight away to find Brian with stroke like symptoms, Aimee took charge, rang an ambulance, and made him comfortable until they came. This time Brian didn’t come home and passed away on the 7th of April 2022.
I am eternally grateful for their care, compassion, and friendship they all gave to us; they went above and beyond. I thank them from the bottom of my heart, and the support they have given me."
