📱 Snapchat Update: What Students Need to Know

Snapchat has brought in new safety changes for anyone under 16, designed to help keep you safer online.

Here’s what’s changed:

🔒 Your account is more private by default
Only people you’ve added as friends can message you or see your content.

🚫 Ages 13–15 can’t have public profiles
This means strangers can’t view your posts or follow you.

👀 Parents can now see more about who you add
Family Center lets parents see how you know new contacts (like mutual friends or same school) and how much time you spend on the app—but they still can’t read your messages.

⚠️ More safety alerts
Snapchat now warns teens about unsafe or suspicious behaviour online.

If your child uses Snapchat, now is a great time to review their settings together and explore the updated Family Center tools to turn off AI generated content.

🚨New Group Alert!🚨

We are excited to announce that we will be holding monthly drop-in sessions for parents/carers under the age of 25. The sessions will be led by our Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners, who will provide a friendly, warm and welcoming environment to support parents/carers to feel connected, ask advice, get support with their mental health & wellbeing and gain information on a wide range of different topics from our practitioners and other local service professionals.

There is no need to sign up - Just come along! Babies and pre-schoolers are also welcome! Free refreshment will be available too 🫶

We just wanted to make everyone aware of the new Snapchat update.
There's a setting that is automatically turned on to give Snapchat permission to use any of your photos - taken with Snapchat to be used for AI purposes.

Please be aware of this if you or your child/children are using this app. You can follow the instructions in the image to change this.

Practitioners James and Kirsty, delivered a Positive Mental Health Workshop today to Y9 students at Pen*stone Grammar School. They discussed stigma around male mental health, barriers for young males seeking support and took part in a task which encouraged the students to reflect on daily, life situations that may bring them out of their 'calm zone' and how to deal with challenges in a healthy way.

We are looking forward to seeing the same students again next week to discuss healthy peer relationships!
