Anxiety isn’t just ‘worrying too much’.

Below are some of the ways it might present itself in yourself or those around you:

🔸 Overthinking conversations or interactions with others

🔸 Feeling like you can’t get a full breath

🔸 Regularly thinking about what could go wrong

🔸 Struggling to relax, even when nothing is ‘wrong’

🔸 Avoiding things that feel overwhelming

Many people are experiencing the above presentations in their own lives.

Integrative therapy can be beneficial for anxiety by using a blend of approaches to source the root cause, explore patterns or unresolved issues/trauma that may be behind it, and explore how symptoms can be better managed in the present day.

Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

In my work as a counsellor, I see every day how much people carry, often quietly, and often alone.

Mental health isn’t just something we think about in moments of crisis. It’s shaped by our relationships, our past experiences, our daily pressures, and the expectations we place on ourselves.

You might be:

❔Managing anxiety behind the scenes

❔Feeling emotionally exhausted

❔Struggling with low mood or motivation

❔Finding it hard to prioritise yourself

Or you might not have the words for how you’re feeling, just a sense that something isn’t quite right.

Whatever your experience, it deserves attention and care.

This week can be a gentle invitation to:

✨ Check in with how you’re really feeling

✨ Notice what you might be needing

✨ Take a small step towards support, whatever that looks like for you

Therapy offers a space to explore things at your own pace, without judgement.

And if you’re used to being the one who supports everyone else… it’s ok to need support too.

Things to know about therapy:

⚪️ You don’t have to be in crisis

🟠 You’re allowed to not know what to say

⚪️ Progress doesn’t look like a straight line

🟠 You can talk about the same thing more than once

⚪️ It’s ok to outgrow people, patterns, and versions of yourself

Therapy isn’t about being ‘fixed’

It’s about understanding yourself differently.

Healthy boundaries aren’t about pushing people away, they’re about protecting your energy so you can show up as your best self.

We often hear “set boundaries,” but what does that actually look like in everyday life?

With family, it might be saying no to conversations that feel intrusive or stepping back from roles you’ve always felt obligated to fill.

With friends, it can mean being honest about your capacity rather than overcommitting and feeling resentful later.

At work, it might look like logging off on time, not answering emails out of hours, or communicating your limits clearly and respectfully.

With colleagues, it could be choosing not to take on responsibilities that aren’t yours to carry or trying to keep personal and work lives separate.

So many individuals fall into the trap of people pleasing which later can turn into burnout and resentment.

It’s important to prioritise your own needs.

Not everything you feel needs to be fixed.

Some feelings just need to be:
• Acknowledged
• Understood
• Given space

We often rush to push difficult emotions away, but they usually have something important to tell us.

What might change if, instead of fighting your feelings, you got curious about them?

You don’t have to do that alone.

Did you know?

Your nervous system is constantly working to keep you safe even if it doesn’t always feel helpful.

That sense of anxiety, overwhelm, or shutting down isn’t you “failing”… it’s your system trying to protect you.

In counselling, we can explore these responses and find ways to feel more regulated and in control.

Understanding yourself is a powerful step towards growth and progress 🧠✨

Growth doesn’t always look like big, life-changing moments.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Saying no when you usually say yes
• Taking a break without guilt
• Speaking kindly to yourself
• Noticing patterns you hadn’t

The smaller things add up to become the bigger things.

If you’re having a hard day today, this is for you:

You are allowed to slow down
You are allowed to rest
You are allowed to not have all the answers

Be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone you care about.

It can be hard to focus on looking after ourselves!

Have you ever noticed yourself reacting in the same way in different situations… even when you want to respond differently?

Patterns can feel frustrating but they often have roots in past experiences.

In counselling, we can explore where these patterns come from and start working to shift them.

Awareness is the first step towards change.
