One of the biggest lessons the last few years have taught me is to stop focusing on all the ‘noise’ and chaos in the external world, and just focus on being the best possible version of myself in whatever circumstances I’m facing. I do this by questioning and reframing a lot of my perspectives and finding as much joy/ gratitude and love as possible in each given moment.
Reading, journalling, meditating and fasting have been the most beneficial tools I have used while working on my mental clarity, but I feel the most important thing of it all is to show up consistently in whatever capacity you can.
Consistency can mean so many things, but to me it’s been slow and steady to help me juggle the demands of working mum life and make sure I get the balance right for me and my family’s needs. To you it may mean regular workouts, time working on a business idea, or just getting out of bed and dressed that day.. One step is better than none and it’s important to be loving and kind to yourself just like you would to others. Ultimately how you perceive yourself and your life is everything. It’s hard and takes a lot of work being present and focused on the here and now but in time it starts to be come, in my opinion, one of the best habits you can form.
My little one has been struggling to sleep through the night lately (yay to 18 month sleep regression) and plenty of nights I’m up 2 while 4am, the way I see it, I can either be upset about this and ultimately feel even more drained or accept that he just needs his mama and I am his safe haven. This is another way I can show up for both Jacob and myself, by being the mum I want to be and reframing the challenges of motherhood the best way I can. I’m not going to pretend I’m not shattered and running on empty a little bit, but I genuinely have loved the cuddles and stillness… Anyone who knows my little boy knows he is 100mph so these moments feel so precious to me.
Reframing is a challenge, but it gets easier with practice. If we can automatically assume the worst we can flip that mentality and see the best in everything too.
Just abit of food for thought, I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend.
