Smoking in pregnancy rates reach record low levels thanks to Barnsley's fantastic health partnerships

Smoking in pregnancy rates have reached record low levels thanks to Barnsley’s fantastic health partnerships in to***co control. The number of women smoking during pregnancy in Barnsley has fallen significantly over the last twelve months.

This would not have been possible without the hard work of Barnsley Hospital’s maternity team and the brilliant partnerships at the heart of the Barnsley To***co Control Alliance

🎉 Celebrating 35 Years of Dedication: Maxine’s Inspiring Radiography Journey 🌟

Maxine started as a student Radiographer in 1986, working at Barnsley and Sheffield Hospitals until she qualified in 1989. With few permanent posts available at the time, her first professional experience as a qualified Radiographer was covering maternity leave posts at Northern General Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary, before being appointed permanently at Barnsley Hospital in 1990.

She worked as a CT and plain film Radiographer until the early 2000s when a fantastic opportunity arose. Barnsley Hospital was on track to become the first trust in the North East to transition from hard copy film to digital imaging, and Maxine grasped the newly created role of Radiology Systems Manager with both hands.

From that point on, she helped the Trust not only move away from film but also explore how digital systems can improve patients’ healthcare journeys. To this day, Maxine still feels excitement and anticipation when new systems are introduced.

As Maxine says,
"I’m still a Radiographer at heart and always look forward to the occasions when I can work as part of the clinical team and actually X-ray patients. I love being a Radiographer and feel so lucky to work in a role where I can experience the best of both the clinical and technical worlds, bridging the gap and helping to forge a service that works better for both patients and staff."

Here’s to 35 incredible years of service, innovation, and compassionate care! Thank you Maxine 🙌💙

🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Dedication – Lindsay’s Nursing Journey 🎉

Lindsay began her nurse training in 1997, when the current Education Centre was still the School of Nursing. As an 18-year-old with no prior healthcare experience, the early days felt daunting but she quickly found support and built lifelong friendships with her cohort and the nursing teams she worked alongside.

After qualifying, Lindsay’s first post was on Ward 20, specialising in Stroke and Gastroenterology, a ward that still holds a special place in her heart. In 2002, she became a Nursing Sister on Ward 19 and spent the next decade supporting a range of medical wards, including newly opened areas and those facing increased winter pressures.

In 2012, Lindsay followed her passion for hands-on clinical care and stepped into the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist in Continence Care, a role she continues to thrive in today. What began as a part-time, single-person service has grown into a team of three full-time registered nurses.

“Each day brings new challenges and rewards,” Lindsay says, “and the opportunity to support both inpatients and outpatients continues to bring immense job satisfaction.”

Lindsay’s commitment, compassion, and leadership have made a lasting impact on both patients and colleagues. We’re incredibly proud to celebrate her 25-year journey. A true testament to dedication and care in nursing. 💙
