Sensory Month 🪁

Taste helps us know the flavour of our food 🥦 and drinks 🥤 . Our tongue has tiny bumps called taste buds that send messages to our brain about sweet, sour, salty, bitter and other different flavours. Taste works together with smell to make food even more delicious.

Sensory Month 🪁

Smell helps us know what things are by sniffing the air, Tiny parts of what we smell go into our noses and send message's to our brain. Smell can warn us if something is bad, like smoke 🔥 , or make us happy 😀 , like cookies baking 🍪 . It also helps us taste our food too.

DCD awareness
DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) used to be referred to as Dyspraxia.
It is a common condition in which an individual has severe difficulties in learning everyday motor skills such as dressing, writing, ball skills & riding a bike.
DCD is a lifetime condition but with support individuals can master fine & gross motor skills enabling independence in adulthood.

Match principles
When a child with coordination difficulties is learning a new task or skill these principles can be used to help make simple changes to help.
M.A.T.C.H is an acronym for 5 things that could be done to make it easier for your child to do an activity.
M – modify the task
A – alter your expectations
T – teach strategies
C – Change the environment
H – help to understand
