September is World Alzheimer’s Month
Raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia is more important than ever, especially here in North Devon, where many families are touched by this condition. By 2025 it’s estimated that around 16,800 people aged 65+ in Devon will be living with dementia, of those approximately 37% will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Help and Support
Alzheimer’s Society provide information, advice and support for people and their carers, for dementia support call 0333 150 3456 or visit their website https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-us/contact-us or you can visit the Dementia Support Café run by NHS Royal Devon at North District Hospital.
North Devon Memory Cafes offer informal meeting places where people with dementia, their families and carers can connect and receive support. Dementia UK offers support through Admiral Nurses, who are specialist dementia nurses providing expert support and guidance to families. You can reach them on 0800 888 6678 or download a help guide from their website https://www.dementiauk.org/
Devon Carers can support carers of people living with dementia in several ways and signpost you to helpful organizations. You can reach their helpline on 03456 434 435.
