Pilates – what is it?
Pilates is a series of exercises originally designed by Joseph Pilates in 1934. Over the years, these movements have evolved to support our modern physiological, emotional and mental needs.
At its core, Pilates focuses on strength and flexibility through controlled movement. It improves mobility through our joints, helps keep the body aligned, relaxed and feeling free. It can clear your head, raise energy levels and even help ease conditions such as IBS and migraines.
Why it means so much to me:
Pilates is also incredibly supportive post-injury and post-natal. I had my son at 41, and it has played a huge role in helping me stay strong around misaligned hips and manage tiredness in my SI joint caused by a weak pelvic floor.
I’ve also experienced stress incontinence, and through Pilates I discovered specific release and strengthening exercises that have helped improve this🫶🏼💫
