Let's dive into our dedicated team of Event medics. Unlike traditional "First Aiders" who primarily handle workplace first aid, our Medics are highly trained experts in their field of Pre- Hospital Emergency Care , providing four distinct skill sets. Here's a closer look:
FIRST RESPONDERS: These diligent individuals serve as our frontline Medics and undergo training at the FREC 3 or L3 FROS level. They're proficient in delivering crucial life-saving techniques, including BLS CPR with Defibrillation, administering Oxygen, managing Airways (OPA/NPA), and monitoring vital signs like Blood Pressure and Oxygen Levels. New First Responders receive mentorship and collaborate with seasoned Medics. Many of them also volunteer as Community First Responders alongside the Ambulance Service and others provide the CST Street Marshall / Responder service in Barnstaple
EMERGENCY CARE ASSISTANTS: ECA's are trained to an even higher standard, holding qualifications equivalent to FREC 4 and most blue light training. They are registered with the Ambulance Service or HPAC and play a crucial role in supporting Paramedics. ECA's are authorised to provide pain relief, such as Entonox, and conduct ECG tests to confirm heart-related issues. At smaller events, they often assume the role of Clinical Lead, overseeing a team of First Responders.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS (EMT/AAP): EMTs are more qualified and trained than ECAs, allowing them to perform additional tasks and take on greater responsibility in patient care. Here's a breakdown of what an EMT can do that an ECA typically cannot:
More advanced clinical interventions such as Administering medications/drugs, Advanced Airways, Advanced ECG support, EMTs are expected to take the lead in managing more complex medical or trauma cases and Lead the response during Major Incidents when a paramedic is unavailable.
PARAMEDICS: Our Paramedics are the highest level Medics that we generally use, possessing degrees in Paramedicine and holding registration with the HCPC. These highly skilled professionals are capable of administering life-saving drugs and medications while performing advanced clinical procedures. Paramedics take the lead in clinical management at the events they attend.
