🌍Today on 19 August, we mark World Humanitarian Day 🌍

The humanitarian system is stretched to its limits and is underfunded, overwhelmed, and under attack. In 2024 alone, more than 380 humanitarian workers lost their lives, with hundreds more injured, kidnapped, or detained.

In 2025, 305.1 million people in 72 countries need humanitarian assistance, requiring $47.4 billion in funding.

At Diamedica (UK) Ltd, our mission has always been to support frontline responders in the most challenging conditions. Through our disaster relief medical equipment (Diamedica Portable Anaesthesia Machine) designed for resilience in conflict zones, remote settings, and disaster-hit areas - we help ensure that humanitarian workers have the tools they need to save lives.

But equipment alone is not enough. We must by demanding:
✅ Protection for humanitarian workers and the civilians they serve
✅ Accountability for those who break international law
✅ Funding for the lifelines that communities rely on

We must protect those who save lives and in doing so, protect our shared humanity.

Today's good news is this wonderful picture of a donated Glostavent anaesthesia machine in use at St Therese Hospital, Nzara, South Sudan. The hospital is a major provider of healthcare services in a region that suffers from extreme poverty, conflict, political instability and effects of climate crisis.

This donation was made possible due to the generosity of the Australian foundations DAK International Network and Partners for Equity. SAWW often collaborates with other charitable organisations to provide cost-effective health care to people in need.

📍 Chaurjahari Hospital, Rukum – Nepal

Dr. Dhiraj Mahara recently led an orientation session on the newly donated Diamedica CPAP machine, supported by the hospital’s dedicated team of doctors and clinical staff. This training marks an important step in equipping healthcare providers with the tools to deliver improved respiratory care for newborns and children.👶🩺

The Diamedica CPAP machine is now installed and operational in the hospital’s Children’s Ward and is set to play a vital role in strengthening neonatal and paediatric care in the region.

Giri Deepak says:
“Thank you to Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide - SAWW for their generous support, and to Diamedica for their continued coordination in making this possible.” 🙏

Good news! Two CPAP machines donated by SAWW have arrived at Chaurjhari Hospital in Nepal. These machines help premature babies and sick infants to breathe and are invariably lifesaving. Dr Dhiraj Mahara is clearly delighted to receiving the new equipment. Thank you to everyone who supports our work and makes these donations possible.

Global Surgery Week | May 25–31 🌍

This 10th anniversary marks a call to action for surgical equity. Over 5 billion people still lack access to safe surgical care, especially in low- and middle-income countries. We must invest in infrastructure, training, and resources to ensure everyone can access the care they need.

Join us in advocating for global surgical access 💙
