Today we celebrate , and this year’s theme highlights the essential contribution of anaesthesiologists in health emergency and critical care settings🌍

In many low-resource or unstable environments, access to reliable anaesthesia and respiratory equipment remains a major challenge.

At Diamedica, our focus is on enabling safe anaesthesia and respiratory care where infrastructure is limited or disrupted. Devices such as our Glostavent® Helix Anaesthesia Machines and Portable Anaesthesia Machines (DPA) are built to function without constant electricity or piped gases, making them particularly valuable in emergency and field hospital settings.

By ensuring the continuity of anaesthesia and critical care services in any environment, we aim to support healthcare teams in delivering the best possible outcomes when time and resources are limited.

Oxygen is one of the most significant recurring expenses in healthcare and in many low- and middle-income countries, the high cost and logistical challenges of sourcing and transporting cylinders can put safe surgery at risk.

The Diamedica Glostavent® Helix Anaesthesia Machine is designed to address these challenges:
🔹 Integral oxygen concentrator – 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘹𝘺𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘺𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴

🔹 Robust and reliable – 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘸-𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴

By combining safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, the Glostavent® Helix supports healthcare providers in delivering safe surgery where it is needed most.

A powerful example of this impact is the SANSOM (Safe Anaesthesia for Somaliland) Partnerships for Progress initiative, where the Glostavent® Helix and the Glostavent® Portable Machines are helping to build sustainable anaesthesia capacity.

🌍Today on 19 August, we mark World Humanitarian Day 🌍

The humanitarian system is stretched to its limits and is underfunded, overwhelmed, and under attack. In 2024 alone, more than 380 humanitarian workers lost their lives, with hundreds more injured, kidnapped, or detained.

In 2025, 305.1 million people in 72 countries need humanitarian assistance, requiring $47.4 billion in funding.

At Diamedica (UK) Ltd, our mission has always been to support frontline responders in the most challenging conditions. Through our disaster relief medical equipment (Diamedica Portable Anaesthesia Machine) designed for resilience in conflict zones, remote settings, and disaster-hit areas - we help ensure that humanitarian workers have the tools they need to save lives.

But equipment alone is not enough. We must by demanding:
✅ Protection for humanitarian workers and the civilians they serve
✅ Accountability for those who break international law
✅ Funding for the lifelines that communities rely on

We must protect those who save lives and in doing so, protect our shared humanity.

Today's good news is this wonderful picture of a donated Glostavent anaesthesia machine in use at St Therese Hospital, Nzara, South Sudan. The hospital is a major provider of healthcare services in a region that suffers from extreme poverty, conflict, political instability and effects of climate crisis.

This donation was made possible due to the generosity of the Australian foundations DAK International Network and Partners for Equity. SAWW often collaborates with other charitable organisations to provide cost-effective health care to people in need.
