🧙♀️ Witches - fact vs fiction 🧙♀️

Here's a fun little post to help you decipher some Witch fact from fiction.

Fiction- All Witches are evil.
Fact - I can't speak for all witches but most Witches I know are nature loving, peaceful beings who would rather heal than hex. However there's no light without dark 🌗, so the occasional hex happens. Witches believe in the power of 3, so nice Witches tend to not hex often as we believe all energy we send out will return 3 fold, good and bad. 🌀

Fiction- Witches wear black hats, have black cats 🐈⬛ and fly brooms 🧹
Fact - I bloody wish I could fly a broom!!! The stereo typical image of a Witch, derived from the days when it was a woman's job to brew hops and make beer 🍻. They wore pointy hats as that was the style and the hats kept their hair out of their faces whilst they worked, it was common to wear darker colours as brighter colours were worn by the wealthy few. Women used brooms to sweep the hop covered floors and they kept cats to keep the mice down,🐀 who were attracted to the hops. When men realised they loved beer, and that women were making money 💲 from selling beer, men retailiated. Women weren't allowed to earn their own money & men were insulted that women were making money from them. So they demonised the women, calling them witches, hense the black hat, broom 🧹 and witches cat image. 🐈⬛

Fiction- Black cats are bad luck because they are witches cats. 🐈⬛
Fact- I've had three black cats and Tabby cats and Tortie cats. 🐈 My most Witchy cat I've ever had is my Tortie who just appears seemingly from nowhere and is very wise. My black cat is the sweetest, snugglyist, purryist, loving cat, who has never brought me bad luck. 🍀

Fiction- Witches used eye of Newt, toe of frog and wing of bat in spells.
Fact- these were code names for Mustard Seed, buttercups and Holly leaves.

Fiction - Witches are mythical 🪄🔮
Fact- Some are, some of us are every day people with a strong connection to energy. 🪬 During the Witch trials in Europe it is estimated that up to 60, 000 people were excuted accused of Witchcraft, 80% of those were women, many did not practice witchcraft, they were just unmarried women consequently of low income. 😞 Most of you will know Bideford was the last place to have women excuted for Witch craft, those 3 women all claimed to be not guilty and there was no evidence found to suggest that they were Witches, either way the evil was the accusers not the women, let's remember them in our hearts.

Fiction- Witches are green faced, ugly and warty. 🧟♂️
Fact- only the evil ones are!!! (Ok, I made that up, but it sounds reasonable!! 😉🤣)

Fiction- Witches live in Gingerbread houses in the woods 🏘
Fact- We wish we do, but we can't because we would just eat our own houses!
