The False Economy of Cheap Treatments and a Smarter Way to Care for Your Health
In healthcare, cheaper does not always mean better value. In fact, it can often mean the opposite.
One of the most worrying trends I see in healthcare more broadly is the false economy of low-cost treatments. While lower cost treatments can be entirely appropriate for some people and some situations, a single, well-judged treatment delivered within an experienced, individualised clinical framework can often achieve more than several lower cost sessions. When care needs to be repeated more frequently to create change, the apparent saving quickly disappears and overall cost, time and treatment exposure increase.
Eastern medicine has always been guided by a simple principle that I hold deeply: always do the least. Trust the body. Support it intelligently, ethically and with respect for its innate ability to heal.
As an experienced practitioner with thousands of hours of specialist postgraduate training, alongside a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Acupuncture, this philosophy is woven into every aspect of my clinical practice. There are no rigid treatment packages here. No sign up for a standard 12 weeks of treatment from the get-go. Every patient begins with a thorough first assessment, after which I assess prognosis and recommend an appropriate number and frequency of sessions.
Initially, this may mean a few weekly treatments, or three out of four weeks in the first month, if needed. This is about helping turn things round and fourteen years of clinical experience has taught me this is often the best approach. As soon as improvements are holding, treatments are spaced out. Always.
This approach naturally led to the development of my One Health Membership. Almost half the clinic now consists of people who have chosen regular monthly treatment over a twelve-month period. They benefit from the equivalent of two free treatments per year, but more importantly, they receive consistent healthcare.
This is the true heart of Eastern medicine: prevention is better than cure. Catching imbalances early means they are quicker and easier to resolve. Patients routinely report fewer illnesses, faster recovery, better energy and improved overall wellbeing.
Of course, acute care and short term treatment for chronic flare ups will always have their place. Often, just a few sessions are enough to get someone back on track.
My advice is simple. Seek out the best physician you can find. This may be through qualifications, experience, reviews, word-of-mouth and/or awards. Find someone ethical, experienced and who does not over-prescribe. Get the right care first. Then, and only then, consider whether a long term health membership feels right for you.
If you are considering acupuncture, start with a single, thorough first appointment. From there, I can assess what your body needs and how best to support it. If, over time, a preventative and regular approach feels right for you, the One Health Membership may be something to explore.
Health is not about doing more. It is about doing what is needed, at the right time, and then trusting the body to respond. It is my honour to practise medicine in its truest sense: not simply treating symptoms, but keeping people well.
If this has resonated with you and you would like to find out more, I always offer free, confidential one-to-one video or phone calls to explore how I may help you.
Yours, in health,
